OCZ Plat. or GOld should do it. Just try and get ram that has timings of something like 2-2-2-5. Lower is better. Crucial Ballistix is awesome, but it only comes in 512mb sticks or pairs of 512mb sticks, so unless you wanna fill all ur slots, i would get OCZ plat or gold. Also, it's only the COrsair Pro series that has the HUGE heatspreaders. Other XMS series are fine. But Good XMS memory is a bit expensive. About 300 bucks for good 2gb of ocing memory. Ok, they are quite expensive, the crucial is at 2-2-2-5 not 2-2-2-6 as posted on newegg.com. And they should all fit, the ballistix is probably gooing to be the cheapest if you go 2gb, but it's also going to fill 2 slots. If you're not buying a 2x1gb dual channel kit, always buy the exact same ram to make it to 2gb. Or else you'll have problems. So example, don't get 2 512 Crucial ballistix and 1 2x512mb XMS dual channel kit. Get like 4 crucial ballistix 512mb, or 2 2x512mb dual channel kits. Never mix and match with memory.

i would go 7800 later on you can get another one and go sli, remember 7 series is newer, and newer is better.

DO NOT BUY NEW MEMORY. Go to your bios and use a 4:3 divider. It will make your memory run at 300mhz and you can set the timings at 2-2-2-5. Memory bandwidth means NOTHING. 400 mhz is overkill by itself. There is no performance improvement when your bus is higher. Lower bus speed with tighter timings will give you better framerates. If none of you believe me try it for yourself before you flame.

Ram timings are virtually worthless to anyone except a guy tracking numbers on a piece of paper for a ram review.

Spending twice the amount on "faster" timed ram will yeild you a FEW fps max. Listen to the guy who said get another gig for a total of 2gigs.

Look at it this way:
2x512 3CAS latency ram costs around $80
2x512 2or2.5 CAS ram costs around $150

You gain aprox. 3 fps out of that extra $70 spent. Instead, buy another gig AND/OR spend that saved money on a better video card which will yeild significantly more than 3 fps...more like 10-30 fps.

Fast timed ram is a waste of money. Especially when you consider new computer day requires even newer ram...thus making your current overpriced ram obsolete...instead of easily ditchable cheap ram.

I use 2gigs Value ram and it works perfectly. I cannot care less about my missing 3 fps.

If you do not ever plan to overclock your computer/ram, then Value ram is more than fine.

Looks like you haven't checked anything since the 8x.xx beta drivers came out then.

You can now mix cards of the same series, meaning a 6800GT + 6800Ultra, 6600GT + 6800, etc. But not 6800Ultra + 7800GTX.
