Help me!! Motherboard probs.

Hey guys,
Got a new motherboard, the K8 upgrade 1689. Ive plugged everything in and the power is going through everything fine, but with the IDE cables connected my dvd drive and HDD dont respond at all, My graphics card doesn't respond either so all i can do is switch it on and go no further!!!
I've tried everything i can think of, any help you can give is much appriciated.

DOes the vid card wirk in any other computer? Make sure it's properly seated, if not then I say you have a bad MOBO. Are the DVD-rom and HD on the same channel? If so they should not be.

Yeah the video card works no probs in my other pc. The HDD and DVD drive are on seperate channels, HDD in IDE 1 and Drive in IDE 2.
I'm just wondering, this is the first mobo i've got and i'm wondering that once everything is hooked up surely it should take me to my bios where i can set everything up?? or is there something else that i need to do first?

Can't really tell without seeing firt person, but it sounds like you have a bad one.

Did you clear your cmos? Another common cause is a dud battery or battery not seated right,

You need to make sure your CMOS jumper isn't in the short position as well

Please mark down your system specs please.

If you are not getting any video, and your drives aren't spinning, and your BIOS doesn't show up, it's more-likely a RAM issue. It doesn't mean your RAM is bad, it may not be in the proper slot.

Refer to your motherboard's manual to resolve the issue.

For example, on my ASUS A8N-E:
If I have 2 x 512mb dual-channel DDR400 RAM, then I need to put one in the DIMM_1 slot and the other in the DIMM_3 slot.

But to show a comparison, on my MSI Neo2 Platinum:
If I have 2 x 512mv dual-channel DDR400 RAM, then I need to put them in the DIMM_1 and DIMM_2 slots.

It should be clearly specified in your manual somewhere, most likely towards the beignning.

...oh, and another thing.

You mention that it's an upgraded motherboard? K8 doesn't say much about it. And the number...well, I dunno what that is lol

If you've moved an existing copy of Windows (moved hard drive from one system to another) then I can tell you right now you will most likely have an error of some sort when first booting up your system, maybe even a blue screen.

I'm hoping this is a clean, from scratch installation.

I see that it only has two memory slots, how much RAM and how many sticks do you have?

I've got 1gb of ram, and i've tried it in both slots.
It is a clean install the hard drive was wiped. even if it wasn't it should still bring up something on screen with an error msg.

Its really frustrating cos everything is where it should be but its just not working further than puting power throught everything. Drives dont spin and graphics dont show up.?!?! :cry:

How do you know everything gets power?
Does your mobo require multiple powerconnectors? If you have an old PSU and a very new board your PSU might be missing a required connector. If you have a chance try all components with your old board, if that works you might have a bad board or something is missing.

I know most motherboards nowadays have 2 power connectors on the motherboard, and if on PCI-e motherboards, you will need the proper adapter to plug in the PSU.

I would think either something isn't mounted/seated right, you need a new PSU for the motherboard or a 24pin adapter...

Other than that, it could be the motherboard is just fried.
