New graphics card

I'm getting a new graphics card for my computer:


Processor amd athlon XP 3200+ barton
motherboard Nvidia nforce 2 nf7
ram 1024mb (2x512) DDR 400
gfx card sapphire radeon 9600 xt 256mb

Would GeForce 6600 Gt 256mb beat 9600xt? I've heard that you can only play on 1024x768 resolution with 6600gt, but could I get better fps with 6600 GT in HL2 for example, now @ 1024x768, settings high = ~80fps. Would I get better fps with 1152x768(?) resolution for example?

Yes, the 6600GT is a better card than the 9600xt.

Ok. Im getting also 512 more ram. Should I buy kingston value ram or not value ram? Non value is CL 2.5 and value CL3, but value is 30€ more expensive. Which one should I buy?

Kingston Value is very good memory. Your best bet is to match what you already have. The computer is going to run at the speed of the slowest module, so there's no point in getting faster memory if you pair it with something slower. Bottom line, I'd get the Value.

Do you have any idea how could I solve out what kingston memory do I have? And, isnt CL 2.5 faster than CL 3? Is there any way I could solve what CL do I have in my memories?

Ok, my
CAS Latency (CL) = 3T (Does it mean that my CL is 3?)

I assume its value ram? So would it be better to buy value ram?

just buy the non value ram if its cheaper.

the RAM will automatically adjust its speed to the other ram modules speed.

But i would reccomend going for the X1600Pro, it'll waste the 6600GT, the 6800, and get somewhat close to the 6800GT when it comes out. Also try for the X800GTO2 from Saphire, it's around 200 bucks and it's guaranteed by Sapphire to unlock to 16 pipes (making it a X800XL).

Well, i mean stock speeds, but it should be able to overclock to X850XT according to Sapphire. But it's still a mystery why my card can't even overclock to X800XT speeds.

are you sure about the x1600 pro i have seen the x1600XT in benchmarks just do a little bit better than a 6600GT and the 6600GT win a few.

Open up the case and pull the DIMM module, memory stick, and write down the numbers. Go to Kingston's website and plug in the model number and that will give you what you're looking for. If you already have a 512Mb stick of Kingston, simply purchase another matching and you'll be in great shape. I doubt, I assume you don't benchmark and OC, you'll notice a difference between the CL2.5 and CL3 modules. The model number will be something like this: KVR400X64C3A/512.... The format should be similar although it may not be KVR......BTW the 3 at the end is the CL so if it's 2=CL2, 25=CL2.5, 3=CL3 etc.

Sapphire has the worst support for their products, and their quality is not one of the best. I know because I had 2 cards from them before, and I'll never do it again.

Oh, and SFR-MAINE, how the heck did you get your 6600GT's core to 550?!?!? Can't even get my 7800GTX to 500 with good cooling on it.
