    Logitech G5 Laser Mouse Opinion

Ok, I’m doing this little review (my opinion) on the G5 Laser Mouse because I just got mine yesterday and spent a good 4-5 hours with it so far and this is just how impressed I am with it. Also, because I really haven’t found very many “personal” reviews on it when it comes to doing what we are all on this forum for…BF2

I’m coming to this mouse from using a Logitech MX-518 (also great) mouse. I started off only wanting to get this mouse because it was the latest and greatest and (as you all know) getting the “new” stuff is always a must even if what you have is perfectly fine. I went to good ol’ newegg.com and made my order. Got it the next day and went straight into gaming. All I can really say is Holy s***!! This mouse is FPS death incarnate. The on the fly DPI adjustment is AMAZING. I know the MX-518 has it but the amazing accuracy this mouse has with whatever laser technology they’re using is almost too good. I never really noticed a difference with the MX compared to this when switching the dpi setting.

My first round was on Karkand (perfect place to test accuracy). From the first round to the last round I played my usual frustration with getting some accurate aiming was gone. This could totally be a sub-conscious thing but for some **** reason, getting kills felt almost TOO easy. Drop the dpi setting to the lowest (for accuracy) and pretty much every shot will hit. All talk aside, I just (for anyone interested) wanted to give some insight to the G5 as well as the “laser” technology itself. Whether you like Logitech or Razer, these things are AWSOME!

Oh yeah!…..The adjustable weight system seemed like a gimmick but it’s not to me. You can really get the feel and movement of the mouse dialed in to your liking.

I chose this one over the razer copperhead because my hands are big and the razer’s are a bit too flat and low profile but I bet that one kicks just as much a** as the G5.

Pros: Extreme accuracy, weight system is actually really cool, no more smooth buttons. There’s a rough gritty texture to the top area for better grip. Braided USB cord (not a memory cord)

Cons: This is a warning of one thing I did read about and has held true to some degree. There have been people saying the mouse doesn’t work on certain types of surfaces and colors. The type of surfaces complaint is true. The color complaint is not. I (had) a rough textured X-Ray pad and the mouse didn’t work on it at all. I dropped it to the smooth desk surface and BAM!! like a charm. I also got a new mouse pad (smooth, reflective surface in black) and there are NO issues. Logitech has said that since this is new technology, most mouse pad manufacturers have not made pads that cater to the laser so everything is made for optical mice. Just a little food for thought if you are interested in it.

hope this helps anyone curious about it :)

The laser technology is a bit different and more sensitive to the texture of the surface. Because unlike optical it needs a return beam, it cannot track it on a rough surface as it probably bounces off in another direction. Make sense if you think about it.

Why the color isn't true? The optical mouse uses a red light to illuminate and pick up the texture there-for detecting the motion of the mouse. If you set it on a red surface or a mirrored surface, it will not work. As I said before the laser mouse shoots an invisible beam which relays back off the surface to detect motion. So agian it makes sense.

I have the Razor and understand what you mean by big hands. Having big hands myself it took a little bit of adjusting but I am coping very well now. I love the sensitivity adjustment. It's great if you're manning a gun or sniping.
I just want to play around with a lower sensitivity on the mouse and high sensitivity ingame to see how well that works.

hah whoa, I used to use my mousepad with my MX1000, now I don't. Yah, lets just say I was dominating (I snipe a lot) now that my mouse doesn't jump 2 mm.

It should as I read in multiple places, pleople use that pad with it with no problem. I went with a Ratpadz GS because logitech said the smoot reflective surfaces are the best for it right now.

well that's good to know. I use a Func 1030 and i love it. And am getting a G5 very shortly.

One question Brutaliteeeee, how are the pads/feet on it? I'm used to using HyperGlide feet, but they don't make any yet for the G5. And i read that the G5 has some (big fancy word) feet on it from the factory.

Are they just standard feet, or what?

                        "Polytetrafluoroethylene gaming feet"
The name hints at the size of the feet. I'd like to see someone use this as a scrabble word.

what's the deal w/ DPI? is it the higher the better (i.e. 2000dpi for gaming)? also, the G5 has DPI adjust on the fly too.. correct? and when would you lower the dpi settings? thanks!
