RAM Voltage

Hello all,

Just wondering if someone could tell me how to alter my RAM voltage. I have heard it could solve my problems with re-boots but cannot see the option in the BIOS.

Depends on your motherboard/bios. If the option isn't present, not much you can do. What motherboard do you have?

Also the only real advantage to increasing the ram voltage is to provide stability is you are overclocking.

If you're able to set the ram voltage in the mobo, it's usually set to 2.70v as default, increase it to 2.80v. If it is your ram causing instability issues this should fix it.

Well actually OC is not the only reason that you would want to change the setting on the RAM. Some boards dont automatically assign the stable setting to new RAM. That is why he needs to get into his bios to set it.

Ok this may help you also. Clearing your CMOS might do the trick so that you dont have to get into your BIOS especially if you just added new RAM to your Board! Also if you have your Motherboards manual you can look up how to set the settings for your RAM. What you will have to do is look up the timmings on the RAM you have and enter it in manually, IF THE CMOS DOENT CLEAR YOUR OLD SETTING FOR YOU ALREADY. I would try the CMOS first. It is on your mainboard real small will have a jumper and say CMOS. turn your computer off and unplug from the wall. move the jumpers up and take out the battery for about 2 minutes. Put the jumper back and the battery back in. Might work! Hope I was a help.

Heh...the manual was the first thing I thought of but I am moving soon and have most of my stuff packed up in boxes.

OK I have found the menu....which one do I change? Is it a standard thing or mobo dependant?

The A8V has a great many BIOS options and you can change just about any setting dealing with RAM timings and Voltage. Unfortunately I can't remember it right now, I'll post from home. I think it's under the Advanced tab and then CPU something or other. The RAM timings are there and you'll find the voltage at the bottom. You'll have to switch the Overclock from Auto to Manual and the menu will open up for you.

Good job, just make sure you increase in very small increments. I'd hate to see you fry the memory. That would suck big time

Bumped it up too 2.7V and it SEEMS to have done the trick. Fingers crossed.

If that doesn't fix it, I wouldn't recommend that you go to 2.8V. 2.8 is only needed when overclocking from my experiance. If you still have trouble, grab a copy of the free Memtest software and check your RAM for errors.
