my second hd formated!

i took out my second hd to format a HD for my aunts comp that im fixing, restarted with my aunts hd as "slave" formated, restarted again, this time with my hd, and it was empty (...is the comp trippin or did it earse at boot up?

Haha "I swear I swapped them". It has happened to me. I'm with Pappa on this one. If the info was there, it'd show. The only thing you can try is clearing the BIOs on your computer by either removing the batter, or resetting it with the BIOs Jumper (refer to the manual for location).

i looked in the hd before i formatted, and it was only the older hd and my primary one, and when i go to check the size and stuff its my 40g one

Reset the bios. Maybe that will correct it. It won't hurt anything.

If you can't get it to work again, and there was some important information/files on the disk, I recommend a program called GetDataBack for data recovery. I got about 98% of the data of my disk back - AFTER it was formatted!

But if you start to put new information on the HD, then it wont be able to get some of the old info back right?

So dont put anything on it untill you have used that program!!

Exactly, a "Quick" format generally makes the HD appear empty although the data is still there. It just makes the OS believe it's empty space without actually erasing the data.

Not necessarily, a full format rewrites the FAT/MFT and checks for errors on the disk. A quick format simply rewrites the FAT/MFT. You need a seperate program, I know maxtor has one with it's utility disk, that rewrites all 0's. The last, overwriting with 0's, will eliminate all data on the HD. I've done this once and it took forever on a 250GB drive.

Hehe...same thing happened with me when I switched out my motherboard. I was ready to cry

As long as you dont put anything new on the HD yes, if you do then you may not be able to get back all the data that was on there.
