    Frequent ingame pausing/flickering

I've been getting a lot of pausing ingame, meaning the game will freeze for a short period of time. Sometimes the pause will be upwards of 1min, other times it will be less than 10s. Up until last week I was running 768mb PC2100 DDR, which I thought was the cause, but now I know that's not the case.

I know it's not that my PC can't handle it. In HL2 I'll be getting upwards of 100fps when it will pause(running full detail @ 1024*768). HL2 is also the worst for flickering, simply looking around while outdoors will make pieces of the world/walls or objects disappear very briefly, "flicker." BF2 isn't quite as bad as my other games, I'll only get the odd pause(All high, no AA, 1024*768). FEAR brings on a lot of pauses, not quite as many since I lowered the texture res(running mostly med/high settings @ 1024*768). Still in those games they run very smoothly aside from the pausing.

I've also been monitoring my GPU core temp. It idles at 55-60C, and I've seen it go up as high as 75C midgame in FEAR. Other games don't push it quite as high, 70C at the most usually. At the end of very long pauses, 1-2min, my PC will sometimes beep. I thought at first it was the GPU core temp alarm, but that's not set to go off unless it hits 120C. Also my CPU idles at ~30C, never goes above 45C under stress. Everything has stock cooling, aside from a rear case fan.

My specs are in my sig. I built the computer myself, but I'm still relatively new to all of this. If anyone knows what might be going on, please let me know. Or if you need anymore info just ask and I'll try my best to answer. :)

2 things I can think of.

#1, clean and re-install you graphics, audio, and network card drivers.

#2, your PSU is a bit low. Perhaps 450-500watt maybe a bit better.

Everything was freshly installed and updated just a few weeks ago, including drivers. I don't really feel like buying another PSU right away when I just got this one, but if it has to come to that I may eventually. And about the psu, I have that y-cable sitting around that came with the 6800, but never put it in because I thought it was only for SLI or if you were short on connectors... I don't really need it in there do I?

      Any other ideas/suggestions?

Well, have you tried running without the OC on your GPU. BF2 is not an OC friendly game. First thing I'd do is bring the GPU to stock and try it then.

It wasn't just happening in BF2 though. Infact, ingame in Bf2 works the best out of any of my games.

Ahhh....Well then, have you tried it in single player? If so does it pause there too?

              Re: Frequent ingame pausing/flickering

I'll try that later, as I have to go to work now. But the other day my little cousin was playing in SP and he had no complaints. I don't know for sure but I'd assume it was fine there.

I'd pause every so often in CS:S, and in HL2 SP there was a lot of flickering, and pausing as well. FEAR SP pauses too, but no flickering. FEAR MP was fine.

BF2 SP was fine, and so are 16 player servers.

If it is the PSU then I'm probably going to order another series of parts to finish this PC off. But if not, I'd be perfectly happy with figuring out a way to fix it instead of spending $250 on parts... So if anyone else has anything to say it would be appreciated.

You sure it's not network lag, considering SP works fine? I'd test your internet connection first. Try www.dslreports.com they have a line test that will see if you're experiencing packet loss at any routers along your ISP's network.
