It is common knowledge that building a computer by yourself is reasonably easy and the best way to save money. Well apparently we are all terribly mistaken, at least according to Alienware:

I just came across this on alienwares site. Building your computer by yourself requires 19 complicated steps! And you have to use trial and error when making your computer, and research everything for hours and hours. Not only that but you also end up with a generic grey box!

And building a computer yourself means its much harder to upgrade!

Plus theres a high chance of getting the blue screen of death:

hmmmm i built my system myself, and honestly ive had no problems, no crashes, no blue screens ect, (only problem i did have was it switching off i found this to be bad ram) ive built a few tho, saving myself hundreds of ££££££. no way would i buy a pre-built system, and those people who goto places like dell and pc world, give your cash to me if you dont want it :)

I would not buy a pre built PC, i just love putting it together. I have built a few PC's now, and they all work fine and the amount of money i have saved is HUUGE!!!

So the fact that i can save $200-400 on a PC by building it myself, AND the fact i like it means i will not get a pre built one.

Also, i find that the PC's i make myself are far easier to upgrade down the track, i give them the best chance to be able to use future technology and the biggest headway so i can put in more RAM, a better CPU and a new Vid card, when ever i want!!!

make sure you buy from Alienware!

It also seems to me that your doing a marketing campaign for Alienware.....?

Conslusion, built your own, dont get pre made, but if you do not want the "hassle" of put it all together, pay the extra $$$ and get them built for you by... Dell, HP, Alienware, whoever, just know that you not getting your money's worth.

They are clearly trying to put off people building their own PC's with marketing guff to sell computers with parts you can easliy source from Ebuyer/New Egg.

Dont be put off, its far more satisfying building your own and saving a packet. Even if you do have problems, its nothing anyone cant learn or RMA.

For those of you still unsure, i have done a quick example for you.
I configured a system based on Alienwares website, and then sourced the exact same component or a near match from Overclockers.co.uk and then compared the two.

Under normal circumstances all components would have been sourced at cheapest price from various outlets. But for this example i have just kept them all from the same source. Just to prove a point.

I built my own computer. It has served me very faithfully, with far fewer serious problems than both my previously brand-marked computers. Its was cheaper too, although not by much.

If you have the know-how, build your own PC.

Wow, that guide is terribly mistaken, you have more choices when buying stuff ur hardware. And alienware cases look drab to me. Look at the case that i have:

It beats that Alienware case by a mile. The alienware only has a somewhat cool paintjob, the rest looks drab. Plus, it's way easier to upgrade parts, plus, it's from alienware, it's really biased. Alineware just wants to make more money, i bet on somewhere like toms hardware guide, they have one of these, and it would say building is th way to go. Plus, if you're a seasoned builder, you know what parts to buy immediatly, and don't get that blue screen of death or trial and error unless some of the hardware is broken.

built my own, no problems in anyway, anything goes bad i can fix, and still have man. warranty, alianware just mad because they are way overpriced and want everyone to buy from them
