OC'ing

Hey guys, i tried to search but couldnt find the info i was looking for. I was told by a mate not to overclock my video card in my pc... is that true or is it ok for me to? I dont know the temps of it as it doesnt have a sensor, but nothing seems wrong at the moment, and the CPU is ok, its slightly overclocked, and its idle temp is 35-38 degrees. So what should i do, my specs are in my sig.

Is it the PC or GFX Card Idle at that temp?
If it's the PC...Mine idle's at 16 degrees!

Thats the CPU temp... Im only using the standard cooling... i cant find out the GPU temp, it doesnt have a sensor.

In that case, I would say your PC is running hot for idle...under full load mine runs at 40 degrees with normal cooling.
My GFX Card runs at about 70 degrees under full load.

Buy extra cooling for about £8. It will save you spending £££ on a new MoBo if it burns out then!

So what should i be seeing as a idle temp for the CPU?

Well mine is 16 at idle...You should get it to that.
P.s. make sure that the wires in the Box are tied together for better air flow in the box.

Ok thx...

I dont think it has ever been that low, and i have an extra fan on the back of the PC to keep the flow going, but its under a desk so i think that the circulation isnt that good there...

But ill try and see how low i can get it...

Dude, what CPU do you have? And what aftermarket cooler are you using? I have no idea what my temps are, my mobo's "superstep" says that it's at 47C, but that's wrong since the last mobo that i had to burned out said it was idling at about 35-37C, and PC Wizard 2005 is the only temp monitoring program i have that actually works. But it says that it's between 10-17C, so it's berserk too, unless getting a Thermaltake Tsunami case actually helped that much.

I'm using a DELL...Speed Fan is the Temp guage that i'm using. Google it.
My GFX Card has it's own temp guage...GFX 6600GT.

Ah, i already tried Speed fan and everest and all those things, they all make my comp go mad cause my mobo's got probs, so you're using stock Dell cooling?

lol my P4 3.4Ghz Prescott idles at 49*C and thats with a Artic Cooling Freezer7 on it.

If this guy is idling at 40, thats FINE and FAR from overheating. IF your CPU is idling at 16, well either you have a bad sensor or great cooling

That's impossibel. 19C = 60F, there is no way your CPU is below room temprature. Whatever your using to read yourtemps is WAYYYY off.

So basically an idle temp between 30-40 is fine... ?
