CPU question.

Hi there, i'm upgrading to an AMD athlon 64. I'm a little confused though when it says 3400+ but the operating frequency is 2 Ghz or something. Could someone help me out please because i want to get it soon but its a little confusing to what the actual CPU speed is??

An amd 64 +3400 s754 (what i have) is stock 2.41ghz but performs at the speed of a 3.4ghz Intel Pentium 4 for games and so on such as 3500 3700 4000 etc etc, correct me if im wrong

actually an athlon 64 3400 is not 2.41 ghz stock, that is the stock speed of a 3800+ and 2.4ghz = 3.6ghz intel according to lavlys EVEREST

The ability to run everything on High is questionable (it's not necessary in my opinion) but the performance you will get is amazing.

The thing about the AMD 64 processors is that they have an on-chip memory controller that makes it faster than any other CPU at the same or even higher clock speed.

The Athlon 64 3400 is a dual-core processor, containing two 2GHz processing cores (I'm not sure of the exact clock speed per core). Why they call it 3400 is beyond me...

Trying to compare a dual-core processor with single-core processors is tricky. If BF2 supports multi-core processing, it will definitely benefit from processors such as the Athlon 64 3400. Otherwise, the performance increase might be only barely noticeable. This is the case with all performance comparisons between single core processors and multi-core processors: a lot depends on the software being run.

They call it a 3400, or a 3000 because that what it is equiv to in Pentiums...

For example a 3400 is the same as a P4 3.4, even though they have different clock speeds. They do this so that people can easily know which cores are similar.

Also, having dual cores help alot, even with Battlefield, as one core can run all the background apps, while the other concentrates on the game. There are always background apps, and it also means you can be listening 2 music and it wont affect your game performance.

-Cpu
-Memory
I've got all my other bits and bobs so i should be fine. I'll just need to cost it all up.

There is no such thing as a dual core 3400+. Dual cores are 3800,4200,4400,4600,4800. Don't know where the hell you got 3400 at.
