Ok i got a descision to make either i go with

-AMD ATHLON64 3000+ 1.80G/1600/512K/S939 90NM
-ASUS PCIE GF7 EN7800GT 256M VIVO BOX 2DHTV

or

-AMD ATHLON64 3200+ 2.00G/1600/512K/S939 90NM
-ASUS Extreme N6800GT 256M VIVO BOX 2DHTV

Witch to go with... I'm sacred that the 3000 is a bit slow I have on my old pc a AMD Sempron 2800+ 2.00G is it slower or faster then the 3000..comments suggestions...?

the 3000+ is faster than your sempron
go with the 3000 only if you wanna overclock it will be a massive bottleneck

personally i would go for the 3200+ with the 6800gt

errr.... yea well im leaning towards the 7800GT and the 3000, Ocing is no problem, just make sure you got a good mobo and better read up on the www.ocforums.com <---- That can teach you alot..

IMHO i would go with the 7800 and the 3000 make sure its a good core like a venice.

EDIT: how the hell do you have DDR2 on a system that doesnt support it?

I say you don't get a new vid card. Cause the X800XL is equivelent to a 6800GT, so unless you want SLi and you're selling ur X800XL to somebody. Don't do it. I would just upgrade the processor unless you get something substantially better, like 2x6800GTs and above, single 7800GTX. SOmething like that, because i wouldn't expect extra FPS in BF2 if you upgrade to 3200+ and 6800GT. BF2 doesn't care much about CPUs, and it doesn't have a real preference in vid card brands either. So i would stick with what you got, only upgrade CPU/Mobo (you're gonna need a new mobo, the XP is socket 478, the A64s are 754 or 939 socket), upgrade only video card (substantialy better vid card since you already have a great vid card, so go for at least 6800GT in sli, or a single 7800GTX) or, upgrade both, but make both substantially better (this will cost at least 700 bucks GPU+CPU+mobo).

EDIT: And if you're building a whole new PC, recycle (take outta old machine and put it into the new rig) at least ur vid card, or you're wasting at least 300 bucks, you can also recycle the monitor, keyboard etc. Plus CPU just has to be like above 2.4ghz for intel or 2400+ for AMD to run BF2. Like i said BF2 doesn't care about your monitor.

Dude, keep you current vid card, and buy a 3500+ or better. Just upgrading a CPU with a decent 2GB of Ram and an X800XL will give you 30-70FPS on max graphics, which is more than enough to play the game and enjoy it... if it doesn't crash or give you errors.

Upgrading to a 7-series Nvidia won't help your computer with everyday usage unless its strictly a gaming PC. Making sure you have 2GB of ram, and a decent CPU will help everything, including BF2.

Yep, even though that's basically what i said, but oh well. The X800XL is more than enough for any game out right now, the 7 series is overkill, you can't even tell the difference between 40fps and 120 fps. If you have REALLY good eyes, you could tell when the game is below 60fps. 60fps and above are unoticable to even the best naked eye.

Does that mean that those are your only two choices? Give us a budget limit, and we'll give you the best results. And if you're mostly only going to play BF2, all the hardware experts would say to skimp on CPU and get the best GPU that you can buy.

Yea, it really depends on what you plan to do with the PC, will it be for gaming, and if so what games, different games need diffeternt setups, for example, BF2 needs a good Vid card and can do with a not so good CPU...

So as Eddy01741 said, give us a spening limit and what you plan the pc to be used for and then we can gve u the best buys.

Any CPU below 3Ghz for this game will cause lower frame rates.

2Ghz P4 with sig setup: 3-20fps on All high no AA
2.8Ghz Celeron D with X800XL almost same stuff: 20-40fps on all high
3500+ A64 w/setup in sig: 40-90 on UltraHigh 4XAA on 64 player maps.

CPU won't make much of a difference above a 3Ghz P4 or an Athlon 64 3000+ but anything below or around that speed will severely hurt performance. If anyone tells you this game is not CPU dependent they're lying through their teeth, its just only up to the ~3000+ range that it makes a difference.

AMD 3000+ are fine.. i have one and it does not hinder my pc at all, i had my friends x850 stuck in my machine for a while and i could play it with no lag from the CPU, only lag was from only having 1 GB of RAM.. but hey.. all systems are different.
