i recently baught 2 gigs of geil 2x1g sticks, and i took the 2x512's i had and put em in with the other 2x512 in my other machine, and i dont see much of a difference. between 4x512's and 2x1g
there isnt a noticable speed difference, between 4x512's and 2x1gb except with 4x512's the max you can have is 2gb with 2x1gb the max you can have is 4gb! mmmmmm 4gb providing your mobo has four slots of course, damn those pointless 3 slot mobos! whats the freekin point
I did a timedemo benchmark on Doom3. One test with 4 x 512MB CL3-3-3-8 2T and it got 93 Fps and the second test with 2 x 512MB CL3-3-3-8 1T and that got 96 Fps. The slight difference is because the command rate has to be set to 2T to run 4 x memory modules so its not much of a performance difference.

Does your motherboard support Dual Channel, and if so will it support 4 sticks in Dual Channel. There's the question. I fun 4x512 in DC with no issues at all.
And from what I have read the transfer differences doesn't impact much. Unless the Raport drives move from SATA1 (1.5 GB/s) to SATA2 (3.0GB/s) then it isn't worth it, IMO. But if your motherboard supports it, then go for it since the drives don't really cost anything more.
If you have a pre-Venice or pre-San Diego AMD CPU then with 4x512 you will only be able to run PC3200=400MHz in 333MHz mode, and the 2T command rate mentioned earlier.
