Battlefield 2 Lockup & Net Access Problem - HELP!

Hello all!

Spongmonkeydeathdog (on-line account) here, I have two issues with Battlefield 2, I sincerely hope somebody can help me!

System Specs.

Pentium 4 c 2.6 800fsb
Asus P4U 800-X Motherboard
1024 MB PC2100 DDR RAM
GeForce 6800LE 128MB (AGP)
Creative Audigy 2 (Value)
80GB 7200RPM IDE HD
550 Watt PSU
Case etc etc etc

First issue, BF2 will play smoothly ,sometimes for hours, sometimes for seconds before the game will "pause" with a usual distorted / stuck sound from the speakers, i.e. Fire your gun and the "bang" sticks, the game stops and the PC is locked up completely, ALT-TAB has no effect.
This problem seems to be most occurent in High end games such as BF2 / Call of Duty 2 demo , Doom 3 etc.

Earlier, less taxing games seem less affected.

Second issue, When joining an on-line server, the game will load the map, check client data etc then, simply sit at the opening screen (where, for example, the game says "The game will start in 5 seconds..." ) the cursor is frozen on the screen, although, chat continues to scroll, sounds are booming away in the background, the games running, but, I cannot get in.

Single player is un-affected by this issue, it runs just fine.

I'm at a loss as to what the multiplayer issue is, its been thus since Sunday last, it was working one minute, and the above problem the next.

Sounds like it may be a sound hardware or driver issue. Check out Creatives website and auto update the drivers. This may help you out.

Tried the Creative Auto-Update - No Joy.

Also, Updated PB with no change. :cussing:

I'm currently Re-Installing from Scratch, lets hope it sorts me out....

Now i'm confused!...........removed all vestiges of bf2 .....reinstalled game,patches punkbuster updates....loaded game with default settings ......and lo, it worked!!!........after a while got clever and altered gfx to higher settings (1024x768) with a few more tweaks returned to game which was sound for a short while then it locked, after which i was back to square one ,ie a locked cursor when online game loaded.No joy either with settings back on default. help! Sound drivers auto-updated too

To concur what Stingo said earlier, - I was there whilst we spent a few hours trying to re-install BF2 & get Stingo on-line. :cry:

Any advice appreciated guys, I'm itching to get on-line with Stingo !!!

One possible thought is his 800fsb P4 is using PC2100 RAM, is that going to seriously bottleneck the CPU (which should have PC3200 RAM) - Brand new game with old ,slow RAM I'd have thought would'nt be an ideal BF2 configuration..... , I'm considering ,funds permitting, he tries 2GB of 3200RAM with an Intel Chipset Motherboard, flea bay could well provide a solution Stingo.... :ar15:
Failing that, if anybody could provide me with an up-to date BIOS for his motherboard (which currently runs a "beta" BIOS (!) ) as mentioned earlier, he's running an Asus P4U 800-X Motherboard, I've browsed the Asus website with little joy....
