Whats a good OC for 6600GT?

Hi, i currently own a Sparkle 6600GT 128MB AGP. I just want to know what's the best possible overclock with stock cooling without any heat issues/performance degradation? Would 530/1000 be a good overclock? (BTW stock speeds are at 500/900 since its AGP). Note that i have stock cooling so please dont suggest any unrealistic opinions.

Noone can tell you what the max overclock you can get with your card is, as every card overclocks differently. With my card for example (Gigabyte 6600GT 500/1000 stock), with the stock fan anything over 555 on the core and I start to get artifacts. As for the memory, I haven't found it's top speed, but run it at 1125 mhz (core at 540).

About all you can do is to raise each individually 5-10 mhz at a time, until you start to get artifacts (core), or see snow/dark pixels (memory), and back it off 5-10 and you will have the max OC.

Just overclock until you see artifacts. You're card won't damage itself from simple overclocking because there's no way you can overclock it so much that'll go up by 40-50C degrees. There's no good or bad overclock because every card is different. I guess maybe if you can't OC at all, then it's bad.

Basically overclock until you discover the limits of the hardware, once you have done backoff about 10-15MHz and call it a day. :)
Like others said, different cards OC differently.

i would say that i did pretty well on my overclock for my 6600GT PCI express version (in sig) great card is all i can say, but i am really looking into a 7800GT or 6800GT

Ok, 500/900 to 535/1100 is great. I wouldn't only try running BF2 to make sure it's stable. BF2 is one of the LEAST overclocking friendly games i've ever played, i have to tone down my OC just for BF2. So you should have two different profiles, one for most games, and another for BF2 and other non-overclocking friendly games.

Bump it up 10mhz at a time. When you start to see artificats, bump it down 5mhz, and just keep making it more and more narrow.

I would say a good rule of thumb would be to not overclock your card any more over 10% of what it already is. :)

Of course there is, you could potentially burn out your vid card, and since ocing voids the warranty, u have to get a totally new vid card. And also artifacts and heat are a factor in overclocking.
