Absolutely. BF2 isn't cpu intensive and anything in the 2600 and up range will work fine. It may begin to bottleneck high end video cards, but if you're buying a Sempron you're probably not going with a high end video card. I know for a fact the Sempron 2600+ works.

Hey thanks ! I plan on building a intel 2.6 celron 775 cpu with a asus p5svm and 512-1gig ddr 3200 ram with a western digital 10,000 rpm hd sata, with a low end video card 5200 128 8x nvidia till next payday then get a nvidia 6600gt agp video card.

Then i will upgrade the processor to a intel 775 3.6 with another gig 3200 ram.

If this is only a gaming rig, is there any reason you're not going AMD? Intel is a good all around processor, but for gaming you can't beat AMD. Just wondering, not bashing.

Nooooo.!!! STAY AWAY FROM CELERON! It isn't a true core processor, its crappy trust me my first computer was a celeron and I have refused to go back since! Get an AMD Athlon64.

Hear hear - stay away from the Celerons!

The AMD Sempron chips are basically Athlon 64's with the 64 bit instructions disabled (also with different amounts of L2 cache). Since everyone runs 32 bit Windows and games anyway, a 2 GHz Sempron will run pretty much the same as a 2 GHz Athlon 64.
The Semprons run cool and have decent performance at a bargain price. If you can't afford a true Athlon 64, the Sempron is the next best thing.

By the way, some of the latest Semprons are 64 bit enabled as well. Oh, and we're not talking about Socket A (Athlon XP socket) Semprons, we're talking the Socket 754 (Athlon 64 socket) ones here.

Semprons are actually a verygood budget CPU with performance very close to that of the Barton XP lines.
Some of the ones with the 1.45vCore voltage OC pretty good too.
If you have a 2500 or above you should get very acceptable performance from it.

Yes, semperons will run great, my other pc used a semperon 3000+ and its sweet as. But DO NOT GET A CELERON! these are very down graded P4's, they are not good at all, and AMD's are generally better for gaming, where as intels are better for office applications.

totally agree, i had a p4 3.6, before going AMD and my 3dmark score is over 4000 more with an AMD processor.

Pentium4 3.6, 2gbDDR2-667, 2x7800GTX 3dMark05 score = 8300
AMD FX57, 2gbDDR400, 2x7800GTX 3dMark05 score = 12700

AMD for games
Intel for owt else
