New Ram. Is this any good?

I was looking at this CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB DDR 400 SDRAM and I want to upgrade to 2gb (2 sticks of this). It seems pretty good. Low price and many people say its superfast. But there are a couple that say its ok but not good for gaming:

This ram seams to run fine doing anything except computer games. I had a Gigabyte K8NS pro motherboard and bought a DFI UT NF3 mobo, thinking my old one was dieing. Then I have the same errors when running games. Searched dmp logs, and it keeps refering to the memory. Be carful

If you dont need low latency ram and you need gig sticks because you only have 2-3 slots and want to get alot of memory these will work great for you. dont bother with these if you game at all, this stick made my games run worse IMO than my 512 stick of low latency.

I was wondering if I should still get this. Right now I have 512mb of god knows what brand, latency ect. (a friend built it) And 2gb seems like a good step up to upgrade it so I can play Bf2 at higher speeds/settings.

I've run generic RAM my entire life and have never bought anything more expensive because I never saw the need. Having said that, I've also never had any problems. Consequently, your CORSAIR would be just fine I think.

Do not buy generic brand memory. Buy good name brands because generic tends to break and do bad after awhile.

I have 1gig pc3200 corsair XMS, i only notice a slight difference in performance from when I had generic ram

If the ram has Value in the name avoid it.

If you plan any overclocking, or expect great preformance from it, don't count on it.

Right . . . Obviously you know nothing about the Crucial Value RAM DDR400 1GB sticks huh? I believe it has "Value" in it's name, and I KNOW it's been proven to hit 245Mhz+. That blows your theory out of the water . . .

Not to mention, who says he's going to OC?

You should also know 1GB of RAM is 1GB of RAM. Spending $300 on OCZ Uber Ram gives you about a 1-3% performance increase, which is ONLY seen in benchmarks, not gaming.

Corsair is a well known name brand.

For the price...I'm sure this is very good ram. The latency rating seems kind of high, but it's nothing you would notice except for in benchmarks.

I wouldn't worry about a couple of reviews....looking at the reviews, out of 214 votes, it got 5 eggs....seems to me like people are happy with it

Dont listen to anyone! Some of the best ram has been no name cheapo RAM.Everyone has there own opinions and favorites. Go do some leg work on some sites with testing and articles on RAM. Be carefull not to wind up on some fanboy site, rigging the tests. LOL. And good luck.

It is best to look at what you are doing with your computer for preformance, now for gaming lower timings would be best, now for encoding video and such more memory bandwidth would be best. Not to mention the fact "smoking fast" is an opinion and is diffrent per person.

I strive for high preformance on gaming for some of my machines, and you can notice the 1-3% preformance if you use the machine enough and have gone from value ram to preformance ram.

This is my opinion, if you don't like it tough not like you have to follow it or like it.

I have Corsiar Valur DDR400 (PC3200) and I can run stable at 250 FSB. Its alright, ive never had any problems with it. Good for the price

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Value RAM, Corsair Value Select is widely used and it is decent. Most RAM have fricking LIFETIME warranties fer cryin out loud, and some value rams are absolutely spectacular.

If you plan on OCing let us know, otherwise buy the Corsair Value Select and be muy happioso.

Thanks all. I plan on getting it now from what you all said. I do not plan on OCing because I dont know how to even though it may be simple, I dont wanna mess anything up and I know bf2 sometimes dosent like overclocking. But no matter what the reasons are I dont plan on OCing. Thanks all.

Ok, i have that ram, just don' oc with it, i've gotten catastrophic results from it. My main comp is down, it's been down since thursday, i pushed the FSB speed to 226, and then terrible things happened, if ya wanna know, look for a forum in this hardware section that's started by me.
