Which upgrade would have the most effect..

    I currently have:

AMD Athlon 64 3200 (Venice core)
    2 GB (2x512 + 1x1024) Corsair Value Select DDR400
    XFX GeForce 7800 GTX
    80 GB 7,200 RPM HDD 8mb Cache
17" LiquidVideo (Circuit City brand) Monitor
    Creative SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit
    Okia 600 Watt PSU

I will hopefully be getting at least 250 for selling my 6800 Ultra, and I would like to upgrade something because I don't think I'm getting the most out of my 78GTX. I'm only getting 30-70 FPS on BF2, and I should be getting higher. Which of the following would make the most difference?

AMD Athlon 64 4000 (San Diego)
2 GB (2x1024) OCZ Platinum Series (2-3-2-5 timing)
    19" Rosewill 8ms Monitor
    Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS

    Any opinion will be great!

What speed is your RAM running at? 333? 400? I have actually read a lot of people complaining about lower frame rates with lower 3000's AMD CPUs with a 7800GTXs compared to those with better CPUs. Sound card can't be hurting you too much, I'd probably bet on the 4000+, or save ~50 more dollars and buy a Audigy and a 3500+ and OC it to 2.42GHZ (3800+ speed).

Lol I would personally get the 3700+ and that good ram. Then overclock it to FX55 speeds.

If not I would go for the 4000+.

In the order of buying It would go like this for me-

        1) 4000+
        2) That RAM
        3) Monitor
        5) that sound card, honestly just get a AUIDGY 2 ZS lol.

Would upgrading the CPU have much of an impact? Its been proven that BF2 is not cpu bound and there is only 1 - 3 FPS difference between the 3000+ and 4000+ running the 6800 Ultra. The only difference between the 3200+ and say the 3700+ is only a matter of Mhz. The real performing part of Athlon 64s in BF2 is the high speed memory controller and hypertransport bus which are the same on all Venice/San Dieago cores. Even 1MB L2 cache hardly gives any performance benefit.

Athlon 64s do thrive on low timing ram and 2GB is proven to give high gains when playing everthing maxed out (most importantly Textures set to high). Perhaps look into that.

                Why a PSU?

Nvm, I just typed in "Okia 600 Watt" in google, and clicked the first link...it was a forum with somebody saying how its 600 Watts MAX and that its really running at like 300-325. Can anybody confirm this? If so, that may be why I'm not running as well as I should...

And my RAM is running at slower speeds than DDR400, because the 2x512's have different timings than the 1 GB. It says in bios it's running 166mhz.

Better to be safe than sorry. With a GTX u dont wana damage it.

Get a Antec PSU first. Then get the ram.

Does the power supply have any effect on performance? If so I will run up to my local computer store and pickup a new PSU.

                        At least 450W
