I was just my usual curious self yestarday. ANd i went into the bios to overclock my CPU. I overclocked the FSB speed from 200-225mhz without problems. THen i tried 226, didn't work. So i tried putin the multiplier down to 9x instead of 10x and then bumping the 226, it worked, i tried to bump it to 228, didn't work. So i put the FSB speed back to 226, and tried bumping the multiplier to 9.5x. And then it didn't work, but when i tried to get into the bios, it had the blinking underscore (this is a underscore: _ ) so i couldn't get to the BIOS. Then, i tried replugging in everything, it still didn't work, it couldn't even get to Windows XP. THen, i read some hardware forums and read that there is a way to solve this. Take out the mobo battery (the one that looks like a watch battery) and leave the battery out of the mobo for overnight. THe next morning, i woke up early, and did that, it STILL DIDN"T work, does anybody know anything about what's wrong. I really need help with this, i don't care if i have to replace a mobo or CPU, cause a mobo would at most cost 150, and a CPU, 200 bucks. I just wanna fix my comp, can anybody help me?

Moral of the story, never overclock if your not 100% sure of what your doing. Hope You fix your problem tho !. good luck. -

Had this probelm a couple of times, just take all the ram out, and put only one stick in, that should get you into bios, change bios to default settings, and put the rest of the ram in.Comment

Something like that happened to me once, I didn't something that the BIOS didn't like and made my motherboard mad. By removing the ram and battery, then putting the smallest amount of ram back in and the battery after a few minutes, it should work fine. I don't think you need to wait overnight.Comment

Ok, problem, i have only 1 stick of 1GB of memory, and while i was away from the forum, i took that 1GB stick out, and put my old PC 2700 512mb memory back in. I got into the BIOs, and everything was already set back to the dfaults, i just changed the time settings, then i pressed save and exit, of course the comp rebooted as always, and then it just freezes on the screen that asks you to enter the BIOs, i really need help. And yeah, i won't overclock again until i read like 5 more CPU overclocking guides.Comment

Do what you did to get it into the bios again, and this time don't change anything at all. Just leave it set to the defaults, even if something looks like it's set too low. Change nothing what so ever. Just exit and save. Then, if it reboots correctly, go back in and change everything one option at a time. Change one thing, exit&save, change another, exit&save, and so on.
That's what I did when I was messing around OC'ing my CPU, and it fixed it all just fine. I'm still a little new to overclocking, myself (about 6 months exp), so I know it's hard to get it right the first time. Be sure to look up settings for OCing for both your CPU and mobo before doing anything. It's fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

Try using the jumper to clear the CMOS instead of the battery. It is different for every motherboard, so consult your motherboards User Manual.Comment

My mobo doesn't have a jumper, it has a wierd reset button. U holld it down for 15 seconds, it still doesn't do anything more than taking out the battery. I really need help, i only got my comp in late June, i don't want it to die on me already.Originally posted by KingOfKhaosComment

Reset CMOS, check in your motherboard manual on how to do it.
Look- When you raise FSB you are raising your memory speed also. So if you have cheap memory its going to crap out on you. This is because cheap memory uses lazy timings, expensive memory uses tight timings, so if you need to increase the memory speed its no problem because you just relax the timings. Unlike on cheap ram, the timings are relaxed and you need to reduce the speed overall to get anywhere. You need to use a mem divider and then up the FSB. What you have done is wrong. Its no suprise your comp is not working.

Well, i've tried resetting the mobo like 10 times by now, i get into the bios, and then get out, and then when it reboots the comp automatically, it just freezes on the screen that asks you to go to the BIOS.
