    It's just a question of what works best on the LCD. If you use a VGA connector the signal has to be converted to digital and when I did some testing on a 19" LCD I found that 60Hz worked best. If you use the DVI connector it might be different cause then the signal is digital all the way. The best way is just try the different Hz settings and see what works best in BF2. The biggest problem with LCD is the blur you get when you move the mouse around fast so I try to find the Hz setting that gives the best result.

      Apature should be HALF of your physical RAM, so set it to 512MB.

          Little update: I downloaded 3Dmark05 and tested drivers againts it (I know, in BF2 it may be different, but I assumed that 3Dmark would be more objective at a first glance).

          Results:
          66.90 (I think, anyways, below 7X.XX) - 3400 (sic!)
          77.30 (the one that came with BF2) - around 3500
          78.01 (latest) - 3680.

          In all of the above cases the score seems to be much too low.

          However, while eating breakfast this morning I checked the card's box. It says:
          1. PSU minimum requirement - 300W, which means I am exactly on the minimum, which is not a good thing.
          2. The card should be connected on a separate cable (if I understood correctly), while I had to use the cable, which also goes to the HHD and the floppy - may be a bad idea, but had no alternative.

          I orderded a 440W PSU, gonna install it on a separate cable and see what happens.

          Changing aperture has not made a visible difference, so I am gonna keep it at 128 for the moment.

          I have one last noob question: I checked BIOS to turn fastwrites off, but could not find an option. Where exactly is it - a friend told me it should be under AGP settings, but it's not there.

            Make sure you have all the drivers that came with your Mobo CD installed. I did and increased my performance exponentially. I didn't believe people when they said it would make a difference, but it made a bigger difference than any of my new hardware.

                Report back, but it should make a pretty big difference. Especially if your hard drive and video card were on the same cable.

                  I had exactlly the same problem when I upgraded my entire system ( see below) exept I only had 1 gig. Stuck in another 512..... problem solved.....everything on high....smooth as silk

                    So, if it was supposed to be half of actual ram then I'd have to set mine to 1 gig which isnt an option. So I guess it's half of VIDEO ram. I prefer mine on 256.

                      I had this problem too, with 1.5 gigs of ram, I have an EVGA 6800, I was dissapointed at first cause when i turn around it stutters. I solved this by setting the aperature size to 512 MB, It was so smooth i could not beleive it, everything on high, even with shadows and dynamic light still smooth.

                        Ok, the major thing is your ram, I would suggest to look into buying another gig or another 512

                        I run my game with everything at max, including Hardware sound, high, EAX enabled and video settings with everything maxed out except lighting which is on medium. it could be RAM, is your RAM DDR? (no not dance dance revolution). It could be your processor, or it could be all, but buying another gig of RAM will not neccessarily increase performance, i would go with processor, but then you would possibly have to get a new mobo. i know it isn't video card itself, but it could be the vRAM.

                          Here is how it went.

                          1. PSU installed with no problems.
                          2. 3Dmark05 score has not changed, but the stuttering was GONE
                          3. Tried to use Riva to unlock the card, but ended up only with unlocked vertex, as the additional 4 pipelines returned artifacts.
                          4. Overclocked the thing with Winfox: Core: 400, Memory: 800 - 3Dmark05 score: around 4100 (not great, but decent I guess).
                          5. BF2 settings: geometries, effects and one more thing on high, textures, lights, shadows on medium, 1024*768*85Hz, visibility 100% - FPS range 40-70, smooth (occasional small stuttering, barely visible).
                          6. Now I will work here and there, get a better case fan etc.

                          One more question thought about temperatures:

                          1. Idle: core: 52, mem: 39
                          2. Stress: core: 62, mem: 48

                          Is it safe and ok?

                            Try to unlock your pipelines. My 6800 with pipes unlocked and overclocked to 385/820 does the game at 1680x1050 with everything on high except textures/lighting at about 50fps average.

                              Thanks for the tip, but as I wrote in point 3 I tried to do it, but only managed to unlock vertex, as pipelines gave me quite visible artifacts. I am not skilled enough to try any vmods, so I'll live with 12 pipelines.

                                Well vmods will only increase your clock speeds, the pipelines are damaged and adding voltage to them won't help unlock em. The only other thing I can think of that would cause your 6800 to underperform is bottlenecking.

                                I will suggest an extreme solution of formatting though. I know when I switched from ATi to nvidia, I formatted..... but I do it a couple of times a year so it was no big deal, even if it made no difference. Obviously if you don't format often and you do it now, if you won't see a difference it'll be a big deal....

                                EDIT: Did you try the PCI Latency tool aswell?
