Put my computer together, problem

Well after i finished putting my computer together i turned it on. Everything was in. But when i went to the BIOS, i started changing the date and i noticed my CD-ROM wasnt working. (thats not the problem) So i stop setting up my computer and exited without saving and turned off my computer.

I fixed my CD-ROM, it turns out i forgot to plug in the power source into it

So now i thought i could get started but now when i turn on my computer the screen stays black (and the light that says its getting info doesn't turn on) and the computer will flash lights, like the power button. Also it will make weird clicking noises (i think its the Hard Drive).

i cant do anything because i cant see whats going on.

It used to just do that for like 5 sec then the motherboard would seem to shut off. All the fans would stop.

Anyone know what i can do?

That HD clicking withoug powering up is a sign that one of its cables is not plugged in or snug.

Well im guessing that maybe it has to do with my CD-ROM. I just tryed to take out the power cables and... it wouldnt move, i pulled as hard as i could without breaking something... ill try harder?

Well i got it out and switched the powercables around.

Plus, why wouldnt it work now if it worked the first time?

Sometimes, if you don't have a good connection because of pulling on the wires or because of not plugging in a cable all the way, you will experience these issues.

Well i got it to work... turns out i just needed to wait for about 20secs :laugh:

my impatience caused me to try to fix a problem for 40mins when i could of just waited 20sec...

That or when i pushed really hard on the power connecter to the CD-ROM i heard a click which fixed it

I was wrong, its not fixed.

When ever my CD-ROM trys to read the CD my system goes back to blank screen with the HD clicking. I dont see anything wrong with the wires. any suggestions?

try a different cd-rom?

make sure the cables are pluged in and not damaged

so ur system freezes?

well i cant install windows because when ever my CD-ROM trys to read the CD, it seems to like "lose power" and die. Then return to the blank screen and HD clicking.

I think it may have something to do with my power source, whe n i change the red switch on the back from 230 to 115, my computer doesnt boot up at all, it dies out right away. its a 400w by the way.

im going to try to change my CD ROM with my old one.

what vid card do you have? pci-x or Agp?

if your hooking up your hard drive and cdrom to the same ide cable make sure to set the jumpers on each device to cable select. -or- manually verify one is set to master and one to slave if CS isnt availible.

230 is for Europe, 115 is for North America. Set it accordingly.

Alright, setting to master and slave fixed the problem with it turning on. Thats fine now, but theres a new problem.

When i have my Windows XP in my system on boot up, it will read it fine, load it up fine, but when it gets to the point where it says that its opening windows or something like that the computer crashes and everything inside turns off.

I thought i needed to format before installing, but i also thought i can only do this with the CD. (im abit rusty on formating)

Any ideas?
