3500+ & 6800GT slowdown?

Hey guys,

Last night I put together my AMD system:

3500+ Venice
AsRock ULi Dual SATA
2GB DDR400 Dual Channel
6800GT OC'ed (425/1.14)

I have all new drivers, except the chipset driver updated for the motherboard on the 2nd of this month. Fresh XP Pro install, ~112GB free on the 120GB HD with Windows , 80GB free on my 250GB storage drive. Ran a few optimizations (TuneXP, etc). Ram is running at 400Mhz in Dual Channel mode, everything seems to be running fine.

After all of that... My 3dMARK05 score goes from a 4131 to a ~2300. Now BF2 greatly improved, but there are still slowdowns every once in a while similar to the performance of a low end system trying to play everything on High. When its running fine I get about 40-60fps and down to ~30 in intense situations (about 100-200% jump over my 2Ghz FPS). Is the 3dMark05 score telling me that something is still wrong with my PC and fixing it would improve my performance even more?

My in game settings are Everything on High except Lighting (med), Texture Filtering (medium), and 2xAA. My CPU temp Idles at ~37C and goes to ~48C under load. My GFX Card Idles at 58C and peaks at 75C during extended gameplay even with a high overclock, and lower clocks haven't helped.

I dunno, because you should be getting at least 5000 points on 3dmark05, and just a notice. You're vid card is running quite hot, mine idles at about 43 degrees C, and at load 62C. Maybe better cooling might help, like an Arctic cooler, or a big-ass zalman cooler.

Do you think the heat could be slowing it down? Can you link me to some Card coolers? I didn't even know they existed.

I have the 3500+ and a 6800GT. I get around 4800 on the 3dmark 05 test. I couldn;t tell you what my card temps are because I'm not sure how to check that. :hmm:

THey both take up two slots i believe, the kingwin is like totally silent, but the zalmans cooler. An even better one is here:

It's the same as the last zalman, but it's all copper, not aluminum. Copper is VERY GOOD at dissapating heat, all high end VGA coolers use copper heatspreaders, so that one is a bit more in price, but that'll probably bring the temps down to 55-60C at load or so.

Download the Coolbits2 registry edit and install.

-Right click on Desktop
-Properties
-furthest tab on the right
-Advanced
-Select the 6800GT tab
-The white menu that drops down should have a temperature selection.

Anyone else have any opinions? Why would BF2 increase in performance and the 3dMark05 score drop by 50%?
