friends computer lagging

My friend has a P4 1.7 Williamette (256mb cache) processor. This meets minimum requirements.

Now for the problem. I got him a 6600GT for his birthday, but it's lagging even on the lowest settings. Is it his powersupply (200w and 300-350W is recommended for this card) or is his processor the problem?

Anyone with a slow processor and good video card running BF2?
His specs:
P4 1.7 Williamette processor
1 gig of PC2700 ram
80 gig HD

You didn't mention the graphic settings and what Nvidia graphic driver you used. Start with everything on low and work your way up. Same with sound. Start on software -> low.

He has a 200W power supply unit?
That's your problem right there most likely.

200W powersupply won't cut it, buy a 350 or greater, recommended a 450 or greater from Newegg.com

Yeah gotta dump that. I went with a 350w and then to a 500w. I could tell a diff.

We had his settings on low 800 x 600 at 85hz. Using the newest Nvidia driver. This card was in my computer and ran great at medium settings with higher resolution and my system specs aren't that different from his (2.4 P4 533mhz frontside bus and 512MB cache).

He's getting a new powersupply today. Think it'll run better or will his processor still be slowing him down?

Yeah, power is definitely an issue there. Other than that, he should get mediums at 1024x768.

So the processor is a non-issue here? I sure hope so. He can't update the MB/processor for a while and we're having a LAN party this weekend.

Well, I can't say for sure. Although I do know BF2 isn't as critical towards your CPU as your memory and video.

Well...processor could be a big issue actually. Switching from a P4 2.5GHz to an AMD 64 3000+ let me go from medium/low settings to high settings :)
