If your gonna take the stock cooler off, you might as well replace w/ artic cooling. It'll make a huge diff in the overall temp and keep your case slightly cooler.

            Rig Specs:
            P4 2.6 Northwood HT OC'ed to 2.8 (Zalman 7000/52c Load)
            2 Gig's Corsair 3200 XMS Matched OC'ed to CPU
Abit Ic7-G MaxII w/active NB cooling
Intel 80 gig Ultra ATA storage
            ATI Radeon X850 PRO (clock 530/581) W/AC
            Maddog 500w psu
            Antec Lanboy Case

I put it on my vid card and dropped it 10 degrees idle and 23 full load.

I doubt it would give you any big enough temp difference to OC it more. Plus I think you'll void the warranty and maybe make your temps 2 degrees lower.

Artic Silver is essential if you plan to Oc the heat transfer contact point has to be consistent for most CPUs. You will notice when you replace enough chips that the stock stuff is almost always patchy.

A word of warning though, Artic silver will cause substantially more adhesion so if you are removing a fan use a twisting motion to break the seal or you might break pins when the CPU comes of with the fan.
