I'm getting a new computer (have plenty of $$$ to spend) and I was wondering which is better... AMD64 FX-55 or AMD64 X2 4600+ (Dual Core)?

If you are just looking for a gaming rig....you are better off with the FX. They are the fastest cpus for gaming. The dual cores are good and great for multi-tasking....but most software just isnt ready to take advantage of it. The truth is tho....you probalby wouldn't even notice a difference between the two in game as long as your GPU and memory are top notch. Many benchmarks show only a few FPS difference and you couldn't possibly notice. But FX is the best route and with a 939 you can always go dual core later.

The FX-57 is a better CPU for gaming, the dual core processors like the X2 4600 or 4800+'s aren't really for gaming and won't perform as well as an FX-57.

Should I replace the 4 sticks of RAM with 2x1GB when I get the computer? When I ordered it there was no option for 2x1GB, but I hear 4x512MB is a little slower than 2x1GB.
