Bf2 should work fine on this right?

I know that I will be needing a new video card, and I found a PNY Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT 128 mb on ebay. Would this be compatable with the computer above?

I know these might seem like stupid questions, but I'm just looking for a little help.

When I click the link it just goes to a page listing lots of computers, don't know which one you picked... but I would recommend getting a 256MB 6600GT instead of 128MB

Man, I never thought I could find a system worse than an eMachine, but you did my friend. You found a REFURBISHED eMachine!!! LOL

All joking aside, you might be one of the lucky few that don't have to dump a ton of money into fixing it after the warenty is not honored, but I would doubt it. I have changed so many parts and equipment from emachine systems that it is not that funny anymore. I do not trust them.

that one is better, but not much. you wont be able to play bf2, you will have to get a video card. that one atleast has an agp slot. if you got one of those then you should look at a 6600gt or a 6800. both for agp of course.

and no not all video card work with all pc's, theres different sorts, AGP, PCI X-press.

I'll probably get the 6600gt. I think I understand the video card compatability thing a lot better now.

What is it that makes this computer so bad?
I will probably upgrade the RAM to 1G, so that should help Right?

It's PCI-E. PCI-X is completely different.

Not too bad, it is a lot better than your first pick. Personally I prefer to stay away from refurbished equipment, but at least it is not a referbished eMachine. They probably use 100% refurbished parts in their new systems! :laugh: I do not know what you have for a budget, but I did notice that the system you are looking at is a socket 754 Athlon system. That model is a pretty good model (by todays standards) but is discontinued and no longer supported by AMD or even Gateway. For about $625 you can get a non-refurbished (new) system from Monarch at

It comes with Windows XP Pro but you can save a little bit of money by switching to Home if you want. Also you can pick Half-Life 2, a pen, wristband, & 128Mb Pen drive for free in the configurator. Make sure to select a floppy drive if you need/want one.

Oh, Sorry. I should specify, other than the new Sempron releases, all 754 socket manufacturing is halted by AMD and everything is shifting toward the 939 & M2 sockets. The M2 style socket will not be released for some time yet and will be a different pin-out of the 940 socket configuration (not compatable), but will be the new mainstream. Socket 939 will remain in production until early 2008 (according to AMD's current roadmap). Currently, the only motherboards "promising" future compatability with any and all socket 939 cpu's are the ones based on the nForce 4 chipset. That is why I bought an Asus A8N-SLI board and the cheapest 939 Athlon 64 processor I could find, the 3000+. I went with the Venice core because it offers more options and better compatability for DDR options and SSE3 instructions. The new E6 revision of the Venice fixes some extremely minor issues that have been found in the E3 Venice cores, already corrected by motherboard manufacturers bios updates. But the socket 939 already supports the X2 processors with dual cores (the future of computer processors). In a couple of years when the 3000+ is too small and slow for me I can upgrade to a 5000+ X2 or whatever and I will not have to change my motherboard or anything. By then I might be running Windows Vista and 4Gb of ram.
