I doubt it. The only way the 7800GTX will be dropped in price, is waiting a few months, or waiting until the next line is out. UNLESS of course ATI's R520s are cheaper, which I highly doubt.

On top of that, the XL is not made to compete with the GTX. The XL is the equivelent of (I believe) a GT model.

i heard they are supposed to have 32 pipelines, which should make up for the lack of raw speed. but who knows.

Ok, the R520 model is only 16 pipes, but it has 550mhz core clock, and 1250 mhz memory clock. THe XT has 600 core, 1400 memory. Those are both higher than 7800GTX (even pre overclocked Evga 7800GTX KO edition). Early benchmarks have shown them to be about the same, it evens out with the pixel pipelines. THe reason ATi won't get too many early sales is because of the hefty price, it's comin out full price agin, at 600 bucks, instead of at least making compition with nvidia by lowereing to 500 bucks.

Umm..... The X850 came out WAYYY after the 6800 Ultra. So it was never it's equivilant... the x800 was.

6800 Release: April 2004
x850 Release: January 2005

You really don’t know your cards then do you...The difference between the X800 and X850 is very minimal. The X850 is basically the X800 with a few more features and slightly faster clocks. Hence the price is relatively the same. The nice part about the X850 is the cooling fan and the Rage Chip.

will the crossfire support a x8xx series AGP?

The Crossfire requires PCI-eXpress and at that a crossfire equipped PCI-eXpress mobo. This is what I gather from a review over at tomshardware.com.

After reading that review (and I mean the whole thing) one can begin to see the potential that ATi has created with Crossfire. However what I see as a major drawback is the ATi Crossfire equipped mother boards that are required. Looking past the mobo requirements I would say that Crossfire def ups the ante in competition between ATi and Nvidia.
