what computer to buy?

i don't know much about computers or hardware, i am getting a new one with a budget of $1000-$1200. can anybody offer any sugestions. does the computer brand mean much?

I would say build one, but since you don't know much it isn't much of an option. HOWEVER, I believe the computers from http://ecollegepc.com/ come put together and things. It is the closest you will come to a non-prebuilt.

you should always build your own PC
You can make a nice gaming rig for 1,000 to 2000
its not hard to build a PC, you can get a guide form Maximum PC or just look at some guides online if you havent tryed it befor. Dont be scared
build a system like this
AMD +3200 or +3500
1gb ram
ASUS sli deluxe
250gb diamondmax 10 or a 74gb WD raptor
antec true or neo power PSU dont skimp on this one man!!!
any case and some dvd drives
get a nvidia 6800 or 7800 series graphics card
save $ and go with onboard sound

yeh i built mine and it was half of the price if it was in the shop, if your looking to save money i have x700pro you could buy off me!!!
