I think i got some computer problems, yestarday, my computer started to smell like a wierd burning smell, it filled the whole room. It was wierd, i didn't do anything. But today, it filled the holl hall and some other rooms, and you don't just smell it when yu enter the room, it smells horrible right now. Anyays, i turned of the system, looked around, everything seemed fine, except the Powersupply, it seems that all the odor was coming from there, it smelled really bad around the PSU. Does anybody know anything about this, i think i will have to get a new powersupply, mine sux, it has a 15 amp rating on it's +12v rail, which kinda sux, do any of you know for sure that it's the PSU.

Ok, right now i'm 95% sure it's my wimpy powersupply, so if you have any objections, say them now before i buy a powersupply from online. Here's my two choices if i'm buying power supplies: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937

Well I heard of the PSU smelling like burning after it dies but never just smelling and still working. Maybe a piece of something got inside there and burned. As far as a new PSU.... I mean sure it's a nice investment since you say it only has 15A on the 12v rail. Both antec's are good so get which ever, if you really want to...Comment

Ok,a time update for me, my comp just fried 10 minutes ago, the powersupply was EXTREMELY HOT. SO that means new powersupply for me, it still smells like an odd burning smell inside. Anyways, i'm 100% sure it's the powersupply, which one is better though, the Truepower 2.0 supposedly is extremely quiet at only 21.3 dBA, not sure about the Smartpower 2.0, but it has more watts, more amps on the second +12v rail, and seperate connectors as well. I really need advice FAST, i'm ordering tonight before i go to sleep,i'l go to sleep in one hour, so i need replies FAST on which one to get.Originally posted by toxikneedleComment

Best way to pick which one you want is to google for reviews on em. So just type in "Antec Trupower.... review" or whatever. Don't make it too specific though... don't just copy and paste the name from newegg. That's the best way to pick a PSU out of 2 similar priced PSUs.Comment

Yup, Ryuuzaki has it right on. I would recommend the first just because it sounds like you're running in a warmer environment so the more air you can push through the PSU the better. But either will do nicely.
I have heard of this before. You may also want to check other components of the computer for temperature if your PSU fried. Also buy some compressed air, and clean the inside of your case from dust, etc.Comment

Well, there's not much dust, i just bought this comp in late june, and i havn't used it for the month i was vacationing in china. Not much dust anywhere. Anyways, i got the Smartpower 2.0, it has two extra amps on the +12v rail, and it also has 70 extra watts, and it's cheaper.Originally posted by KingOfKhaosComment
