Is is normal for onboard sound to crackle in the background in bf2? It kinda gets annoying especially when playing with speakers. Can anyone recommend me a good sound card thats cheap.

Make sure you turn off EAX if you use Onboard Sound. Only Creative sound cards have EAX.

Re: Onboard Sound
ya my onboard on my asus a8n-sli deluxe did that and it was annoying as crap. i gotta audigy 2 zs and the problem went away. ill prob get an x-fi when they get cheaper....either that or a SVS sub for my home theater. if you know anything bout SVS then you know this is a big decision. :)

Re: Onboard Sound
I wouldn't call it normal. It's not supposed to crackle. It's either a hardware or driver issue if you're getting crackling. Make sure your sound settings are Software rendering, EAX off, and set it to Medium. If you're not using VoIP then I'd mute your Mic input also.

Re: Onboard Sound
Crackling sound doesnt have to be an "issue", sound will crackle when the sound card has trouble rendering the sounds...in other words its maxed out. Turning on "software" mode will probably resolve it because that turns off the soundcard.
Why does everyone seem to have better results with the sound on software mode...it should be better set to hardware.

Re: Onboard Sound
I have mine on Hardware, High, EAX on, and have no issues. I only used software when I was using the Realtek AC97 onboard audio.

Re: Onboard Sound
I sometimes hear crackling, but not much, i use onboard sound, it costs over 50 bucks for an Audigy 2ZS, that's too much for me. I would rather save up for an extra gig of memory.
