Seagate HDs are very reliable. They are top of the line 7200RPM HDs IMO. Here's one that should be enough for you:

Another option I have for you is buying 2 Seagate 80GB HDs and putting them in RAID0. This will give you faster load times and a total of 160GBs of space:

I would only buy Seagate or Western Digital. I have WD Raptors in my gaming machine, and Seagate in all the rest. I have a total of 320GB of Seagates, and only one (old 40GB) ever failed on me. Seagate immediately replaced it though so I was happy.

I thought 2 80g drives in raid-0 gives you 80g of space.

Nice WD harddrive there. 250GB, under 150 bucks, and it's SATA300!

                Raptors aren't worth it.

                  fixed.

There is a significant increase in performance from a WD Raptor 74.

I haven't noticed a huge increase in performance. I have 2 in a RAID 0 configuration, and I would have to say that load times, and things to that nature aren't that much faster. The only time I can tell is when I am moving large files to/from my file server (which is downstairs).

Nah that's RAID-1. RAID-1 writes the same thing on both HDs therefore if one fails, you have a backup. If one fails in RAID-0, your files are kapoot. But same speeds, 2 needles.

As far as RAID in general, I aggree with King. I think it's not all it's made out to be. Although, if you like having 1 big HD, you can't do that with raptors. So youre only option is raiding the 74gb drives to make 1 big one. For 7200s though, theres no point... it's just an option if you want it.

jimmy, there's a diference but whether or not you're willing to spend the extra dough on it, is up to you. Raptors are significantly more expensive and tons of people have them. I mean just go to any tech forum and look at people signatures. But, like I said whether or not the diference is worth the extra $100 is another issue.

I can answer that. No its not worth it.

Yes a lot of people have them, myself included. However if you setup 2 80GB SATA2 drives each with an 8mb Cache, you got yourself a pretty comperable RAID setup.
