My friend is deciding on purchasing a new GFX card and needs an AGP one. He has decided that he is either going to purchase an X850 XT PE or a 6800 Ultra (he would get a 7800GTX but they don't come in AGP). So anyways...I know both have 16 pipelines. The X850 has higher clock speeds but I know the Ultra has the newer shader model. Which one should he go with?

Re: GFX Card Comparison
he should upgrade his mobo its kinda useless to stay with agp now, get a 70 dollar mobo and a 450 dolar 7800gt. or out of those 2 get the x850xt

Re: GFX Card Comparison
I'll have to aggree. A newer mobo and a 7800GT would seem like a better investment than a AGP x850xt.
A lot of people have been able to OC their GT enough to reach a GTX on stock speeds... given that the GT is shorter and has 4 less pipelines, is pretty damn good.

Re: GFX Card Comparison
You can't overclock a GT to GTX speeds.Originally posted by 1twelve2exactly what i did..... im waiting on my cooling system so i can OC my 7800GT past the GTX
It's not like going from a 6800 GT to a 6800 Ultra.
The 7800 GT has 20 pipelines, and the 7800 GTX has 24.
It's not possible.

yes ti is you clock the core and memory speeds over it. and ive seen benchmarks that show a gt oc is as good as a gtx.

Re: GFX Card Comparison

Re: GFX Card Comparison
Well, only the older 6800s could be flashed to 16 pipes, the newer ones can't, so start looking on ebay for old 6800s. It ain't that simple, it's very complicated to flash the pipes, plus, you'll have cooling problems as well as artifacts sometimes.Originally posted by Death Merchantis it possible to unlock those pipes like in the 6800

Newer AGPs still can be softmodded, it's very simple to enable the pipes, and cooling problems are non existant unless you start overclocking it.

Re: GFX Card Comparison
I have a new AGP 6800 and I CAN unlock the Vertex Shader but I CANT unlock the extra pipes as it gives me artifacts. It is possible for me to do it with Rivatuner though...Originally posted by lil_jimmy_nortonNewer AGPs still can be softmodded, it's very simple to enable the pipes, and cooling problems are non existant unless you start overclocking it.

Yeah, i've hard lots of glitches with flashing pipes, mostly artifacts as you said.Originally posted by Snake101I have a new AGP 6800 and I CAN unlock the Vertex Shader but I CANT unlock the extra pipes as it gives me artifacts. It is possible for me to do it with Rivatuner though...
