Recommend a PSU

Hi,

After looking at the PSU threads here I've noticed that 18 on the 12 rail from my 300w PSU is a little low. Can someone recommend a PSU thats suitable for the below, under £100.

X800Pro, AMD 64 3.2, Audigy Zs, 200GB HD, 2xCD/DVD RW, 1GB Corsair, 1 user adjustable CPU fan.

OCZ Modstream 450. Awesome looking and performing PSU. It's modular so you only plug-in what you need.

I second that module is going to be standard in about 1 year or so. It reduces the strain on the PSU and also the amount of cableing (thus increasing airflow).

8 amps on the +12 rail for a 300w PSU is a pretty good number. If you want to be sure, place a multi-meter to a molex (black on black and red probe on yellow) while the PC is running a benchmark. If the voltage is within +/- 5% of 12 volts you are good to go.

Why screw with 300w? That is absouloutely false ecconomy. $160 get you an SLi compatable babe of a PSU

I agree openheimer, but I am running an older Enermax 350 on a high-end system with lots of extras and amperage to spare and stability is perfect. It just happens to be a good PSU that operates as it should, so in my situation, even after moving to an AMD 64 based system, the voltages and amperage were steady, stable and high so there was no need to change.

Why go through all that crap? Just run Everest Home Edition, it will give you amerage. My 12v stays at about 11.89. And people told me my PSU with my case was crap, lololol.

Tagan TG480-U22 is a great PSU.

Just make sure you don't take a Q-Tec or another cheap brand, it will give you lots of troubles.

Why? So that you can get an accurate reading of what's going on under a full load. No one cares what the +12 volt power rail is doing at idle because instability begins under load.

THey all have dual +12v rails which add up to a nice +12v amperage rating, i would recommend this one from those:

It has dual +12v rails each rated at 17 amps, thats a good power supply, remember, never just look at a PSUs wattage rating, you have to look at the +12v rail amperage, usually 22 amps or more is good, getting dual +12v rails with like 15 amps each or more is great.

Even under load, my rail stay within 5%. Lowest I saw it go was 11.78 and it bounced right back to 11.84.

Ive just ordered an Antec Truepower 480Watt.

My QTec's 450Watt was its peak figure, it was more like 315Watts Max which is hopefully why games crash with all 4sticks of ram in. With 2 sticks in, its runs ok.

It only outputted a max of 18Amp on the 3.3V rail and 16Amp on the 12V rail.

I might as well as post my quesiton here than start another thread, but i'm looking for a new PSU myself to support my current system, as well as going to a AMD "m2" when it comes out. Willing to spend up to 150 USD (not counting Cali tax). I'm thinkin OCZ modstream 520 or that Hiper Type-R 580 PSU (Heard mixed things though), but any other suggestions?

I heard good things on the Hiper PSU, although can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm an OCZ man though. There's gonna be an awesome mod-stream coming out soon. It'll be 600-700w (I think) SLI certified, 2 12-v rails (split or combined switch), and that awesome modstream style. For a single vid card system, the 520w mod-stream is the way to go.
