500W is defiantly enough and with the +12V rail being 22A you'll be set :) -

This power supply (according to the sticker) does have great wattage on all rails but is still only a single 12v rail PSU. More than likely a 20pin atx unit configuration. It is a very good PSU and the only way you should have any troubles with it is if you go SLI and start running dual video cards. Typically the manufacturers bump up the amps on the lesser used rails to get higher overall wattage for advertisment purposes. That is always something to look out for but yours does seem to be well balanced. Hope this helps...Comment

Umi, it is obvious it does not. If you split a 22 amp rail you are going to have a very flaky system. If you are not running SLI then you have nothing to worry about. a 7800GT really should operate fine on 22 amps but personally, I would probably go with a PSU that has around 29+ on the 12v rail. I currently have a $30 485Watt PSU with dual 12v rails, one 29 amps and the other for SLI is 17 amps. 46 total amps on the 12v side is pretty darn good if you ask me. If you have the money, go for broke though because the PSU is the backbone to a powerful system.Comment

A good way to tell if a PSU is good is to see how heavy it is. The heavier the PSU, the better it is. If it's light, that means the parts used are cheap and all the watts and amps in the world won't help it last under heavy usage.Comment

Sorry to say, but that is not true. Several manufacturers will use cheaper components which generate more heat, which require more surface area (heatsinks) to keep cool. Heatsinks are heavier than IC's. The weight of the powersupply has nothing to do with quality. You could use a multimeter and monitor the spikes, pits, and any substatial variations in the amperage and voltage on an idle system. Or, you could rip it open and trace IC models to the manufacturers. Better yet, you can read a few reviews.Originally posted by toxikneedleComment

Do some leg work. Crack open an eMachine or any 'heavy' cheapo PSU and grab the transistor & capacitor codes and look them up in the manufacturers tech specs. You will find out exactly what I mean in just a short while. If you need an example, compare the weight and components from a ChiefMax 550Watt (PS-CM-550W-2FAN) and a CoolMax (CR-550B).
