If you want to join the game when everyone else does, you need the 2 Gigs... with 1 Gig you will be starting late on the map and have no chance of getting any good vehicles.

Really? I only have 1Gig PC4300 DDR2, and I'm usually one of the First in, giving me access to whatever I want:evil: On a side note, the only thing I'm looking to upgrade is my PS, poor little thing(300wat), between 8-12hrs of BF2 she sometimes CTD

In the start of BF2 I had 1gig of ram , and major stuttering in start of the round, I placed an extra 512RAM so now I have 1.5gig and the stuttering wasn't gone completely but now it only takes like 5sec to sometimes 10 sec, it used to be like 30 to 45 sec

exactly, the extra ram means the levels load a lot faster and you get less stutter at the start of the game when its caching everything... highly recommended for a more pleasant experience

After reading a tweak guide on another site I was advised to drop all my settings down to medium as the difference i graphical quality is minor yet the increase in FPS is pretty big, about 10-12

I'm running a (vanilla) 6800 256mb, A64 3000+ and 1gb RAM. On medium it is superb, silky smooth and no complaints. Loading times are fine (though verifying client data can take ages )

Does anyone else have experience that switching to high quality graphics makes THAT much of a difference? I don't see it, bar the muzzle flashes etc. and it certainly doesn't detract from the game.

What is interesting is the 2gb ram "requirement" though... given how long I spend on the game it might be worth getting 1gb more if it really does help.

BTW any ideas if the client Verification thing will be sorted in the patch?

Thats rediculous. My computer (specs in sig) runs bf2 at a constantly high fps, no lag, not even with artillery strikes or anything, I never notice it dip down at all. I run everything on high except lighting and it looks and plays incredibly smooth. Loads up at a fast time as well.

Seriously, you guys need to download microsoft anti-spyware.. defrag your harddrive, do a registry check or something. If you ever have lag with a system like mine theres something wrong with it. All 2 gigs ram might do is load 5 or 10 seconds faster.. yeah thats really worth it for the price it costs.. in the long run I might be able to play bf2 an extra 10 minutes..

Utter rubbish. I only have 1GB and I'm in the top starters every time. A fast HD will help, especially with the verifying data part.

Get 2 gig for god sake. Like you said, you want a comp that will last 2 years, a gig won't run the games that are set out for release soon. Just get 2 gig and work the money back into your pocket.

Bear in mind you have a 6800 GT which is a fair bit quicker than most people's cards.

I went from 1GB to 2GB and you will notice a massive increase in loading times. The game is no different. Once one game is loaded, the next time the game needs to load a new map the hard drive isnt even accessed, its all loaded from memory and therefore miles faster. Takes 5 - 10 seconds to reload the next map. I also noticed an improvement in starting a game, much faster and no stuttering. Plus if you need to alt-tab to windows, its all instant. As far as gameplay is concerned there is no increase in FPS and I never noticed much stuttering with 1GB.

Those who think a SATA hard drive is faster is deluding themselves, although the interface is faster, data cannot be physically read/written from the disk anymore than say a max of 80MB/sec which a trusty EIDE ATA100 drive can easily transfer. The only reason newer hard drives are faster as the density per platter is higher so the read/write heads can access more data per inch which means a disk spinning at 7200rpm can access more data per rotation. A modern SATA is virtually the same as a modern EIDE is terms of sustained transfer/writing.

Bear in mind you have a 6800 GT which is a fair bit quicker than most people's cards.

Video cards don't affect load time...

i can run bf2 with all high settings, except for textures, lighting and terrain on medium, and AA to 2x.
