What is with this crappy performance?

Heres my system and it should be PLENTY to run bf2 on the settings i have set.

    3.0 P4
1 gig of corsair xms ram
    6800GT

I have texture on medium, and all the lighting and shadow crap on low and medium, everything else high which is only like 3 or 2 categories on high, and im dropping to as low as the 20s in fps? the max my fps goes is like 50 which isnt THAT great at all, unless i look in like a corner i get higher. But why is my game running so crappy on that system with those settings, its really annoying because i read a interview saying that XP3000 and the rest of my specs could pull the game off but a P4 3.0 cant? and the testers in the interview played all graphics on high...

I have no idea, maybe if your 6800GT wasn't stock you didn't remove all the drivers, if not google driver cleaner pro. Or it could be various things like overheating that might hinder your performance.

EDIT: THis belongs in the hardware section, those guys can really help ya.

probly not that cuz my graphics card never goes over 80C which is ok for a 6800GT and its a stock card..

My cousin has the same problem, and he suspects it's because his power supply isn't good enough, seeing as it is below the minimum system requirements for his XFX 6800. (6800's need maybe 300-350 and up, but he has a 218... then again, i'm not a tech expert. Sorry)

GAH, you scared me. 80C, HOLY SH*T, that's way too hot. It'll burn out over like 1 year. Get a new GPU cooler or get bettter case ventilation. I run mine on the overclock settings in my sig, never go above 68 C. You gotta get better cooling. I got 5 more FPS from 10 C cooler temps by adding an extra fan to my machine. You're going to get like 10 more if you get it down to 65C max for your video card.

Balazar had the same problem and he was running a P4. I changed out his thermal paste and the game improved. He ended up buying a AMD64 like me and hasn't had any problems running the game on max.

Re: What is with this crappy performance?

normaly your system should run BF2 everything on high man, don't know why it runs so crapy on your system.

The theory about your powersuplie isn't good, if this was the problem , your system should be unstable and have serious lock ups during gaming.

I recomend you do the folowing

              first :
Run a complete spyware scan , best program is hitman pro, this program combines 5 spyware progs run automaticly.

Then a complete virusscan with an online virusscanner because yours maybe out of order by a virus you don't know of and your system doesn't give warnings about it.

Then format the disc where BF2 is installed on.

Then look in your task manager =>processes look what programs are running at the moment, every one you don't know what it is, search in google , when it looks something you won't need or you didn't even install, shut it down.

Then run BF2 and see if you got extra performance

This question belongs in the Client Help section, it is quite clearly a request for help regarding his performance of Battlefield 2.
The hardware section of for general technology discussion/ upgrade advice/ showcase of newly constructed systems and similar topics.
In order to be of help to those with problems in Battlefield 2, we need information on the system that they are trying to run it on.

Maybe try defragging the hard drive? I know that sounds pretty basic, but it couldn't hurt.

                    Known factors:
                    1) Cooling 2) Power Supply 3) Backround Programs Running 4) More RAM

Re: What is with this crappy performance?

well for me it was that I clocked my graphic chip higher than the graphic memory, I had the graphic chip on 585 and the memory on 570.. I had horrible framerate, smooth when not much was going on but on battles it was very annoying slow

then I clocked the memory as high as the gpu and now the slowdown are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                      I have a x800pro
