Hey guys, do u think 60 (c) is too hot for load on an AMD chip? (San Diego Core, 1.5v [1.34 stock] with a 20% increase in speed)

Re: Overclocking my CPU
San Diego core you mean?
60ºC is too hot yes.
Look into getting an aftermarket HSF to cool it down if you are overclocking it.
I have a Barton core AMD XP3000 running at 2.41GHz and it does not exceed 50ºC even during gaming. -
Re: Overclocking my CPU
I have a Zalman http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118119 it should be good for overclocking... what do you think my problem is? People have reported much higher voltages with lower temps and worse fansComment

Re: Overclocking my CPU
How long since you cleaned it all out and got rid of any dust buildup?
What thermal compound are you using?Comment

Re: Overclocking my CPU
what are you using for thermal grease?? not the stuff that came with the heatsink i hope?? YOu shoudl use some Arctic Silver, and besure to clean the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the processor before applying it to ensure good conductivity.Comment

Re: Overclocking my CPU
I've got a few of the Zalman 7000's and can certainly recommend them. Just be prepared to remove your motherboard to fit it!
I'd agree with AT39 and DrunkenPirate about checking the contact between the CPU and heatsink though, and not using the stock thermal compound. Unless you're having a fairly hot summer day over there in Wisconsin that temperature does sound a little on the hot side.Comment

I don't think they ever have hot days in Wisconsin.

Re: Overclocking my CPU
I didn't think so... :)
I get jelous of all you people living in cold climates when it comes to overclocking.
Here in Australia a lot of us overclockers have different summer and winter configurations. Eg. take the side panel off and dodgily mount some 120mm fans or even (gasp!) drop voltage and clock speeds for a couple of months.Comment

Re: Overclocking my CPU
Lol, wow Lots of stuff to reply too.
1) The thermal compund is messed up... This machine was my 1st build, so I guess I screwed it up a bit. I used stock compound (1st mistake) and then removed the heatsink from the cpu to reposition it while it was wet (2nd mistake) I am going to pick up some arctic silver 5 today though. Whats the best way to remove the old junk? Ive heard isopropolol (spelling?) of 99% purity works.
2) Yes, it actually (and sadly) does get hot in wisconsin.... not right now, but earlier this summer is was 85-105 with about 97% humidity (Thanks globol warming :P) (Fortuenetly we have AC)
3) I have 3 case fans, 2 80mm in the front (intake), and 1 in the back(exhaust)Comment
