Do I need to overclock my computer or do I just need more RAM?

    Here are my questions:

    1) Do I need to overclock my computer?

    2) Would this be overkill, when all I need is more RAM?

I just built my rig and I am having a blast playing BF2. However, I am a bit disappointed with the performance of my computer (specs below). While I am able to max all settings in single player when I go to multiplayer with the same settings I get stuttering. I have read through many posts and it appears that the consensus is more RAM. I am also thinking about overclocking my processor, memory, and graphics card. However,I would need to buy a new heat sink to overclock my processor. If overclocking is overkill in my situation I could save the money and just buy more RAM.

If you do not use Voice Over IP, disable it. It uses too much bandwidth and can cause jerkyness even on a good system. 2Gb of total ram would not hurt either!

More ram actually. Nice system tho...can we trade ^^?

I'm still trying to get used to - "For BF2, for high end, 2gb is like perfect. Heck, mid-range can benefit from 2gb of ram oddly. RAM's cheap, unless you're using high-end, then its not so cheap =p "

Get 3+ gig and turn virtual memory off. That will increase any puters speed.

I'd definitlely suggest more Memory as the rest of your system is very capable of running BF2 very well. You may be getting server lag also. I can go from server to server and get very, very different gameplay charateristics. Good Luck and it won't hurt anything to go to 2Gb.

DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR VIRTUAL MEMORY - even with 3GB, it will not speed your computer up, and can cause crashes, if the memory is avaible the computer will use it before it uses the pagefile...

Why would you want to Max out the Settings? For Single Player, sure why not, but in Multiplayer you will find more places for your enemies to hide if all your settings are on High. I'm not going to tell you which Settings to turn down for better viewing, but trust me, you don't need to turn them all up to high. The only one that I have at high is Geometry, and View distance 100%

                            My System Specs:

                            Mobo - Intel 945GI / CPU - P4@3.4GHz / 1G PC4300DDR2 / NVidia 6600GT PCIe / The rest doesn't matter
