    Lockups with X800 AGP 256

I've been having problems with the game when I installed my x800 256 AGP vid card. It's been crashing to the desktop and I can't figure out why. I didn't have this problem when I was using an nvidia card. I've tried a bunch of different settings and drivers, but I'm still getting the same issue. Has anyone had this kind of problem? I'm using the 5.6 drivers right now.

    Here are some specs:
    2 gig ram
    Athlon xp 3200+

I've disabled the dual monitor output, just in case that was the problem. It's really frustrating!

    Thanks in advance,

What power supply do you have?

Also did you uninstall the old drivers properly?

    Thanks.

Re: Lockups with X800 AGP 256

I have a 450w power supply so that's ok. And yes I got rid of the old drivers, and then i reinstalled my 5.6 ati drivers just to make sure. I'm getting this same thing (quiting to the desktop) when I'm playing any game ie. tiger woods or CS. So it's a generic problem and not specific to BF2.

      thanks for the help!

Which make is your power supply?

        Try this-

        Uninstall all your drivers again.

        Restart

Boot in safe mode (hammer F8 on startup).

        Run DRIVER CLEANER PRO

        Restart

        Now install drivers

        Restart.

        Try that

Also, do you think your card is overheating? What temp has it got right now?

        Thanks

Re: Lockups with X800 AGP 256

Ok I've done all of the reinstalling of the drivers. And the game was working for a while on 800 X 600 in low resolution. I was playing away without a problem. So I bumped it up to medium resolution. I was only playing for about 10 minutes when it went to the desktop. So I'm thinking maybe the board is overheating? I'm guessing that's possible.

            This is frustrating.

I'm suspicious of your temps also. In addition to that, even though your PSU is listed as 450W, find out what the max amps are on the 5V rail. Make sure you have enough amps to supply all the things plugged into that rail (commonly all the things w/ molex connectors).

Ok i've been fooling around with this and here's what I found out. I can play the game when running with low detail without a problem. Both 800x600 and 1024x768 displays work fine. When I bump it up to Medium detail, the game tries to load when connecting to a server, but then it kicks me back out to the desktop. I've been monitoring my temps, and the highest I've seen so far (playing for >5 mins) was 61.6.

So I'm guessing that it's something with the video settings. Should anti-aliasing be on or off? And what does it do?

i also have a 3200xp chip and my computer kicks me to desktop all the time. i agree its really frustruating and i have even tried reformatting my pc with a fresh install and it still does the same thing. my video card seems to be the problem? so maybe i need to upgrade it. i have a gig of ram in my pc. my main board never gets that hot but the agp card must be freaking out. if anybody figures this problem out please let me know

Well, because it works on low detail, there's got to be something wrong when moving over to medium detail. I've run DXDIAG and it passes all the test, I'm not sure what's going on with it. But I will figure it out....
