    HELP! ATIX700 (8 or <) pipelines?

    Heyhey,

Yesterday, I bought a ATI X800XT AGP...only to find my board has a PCI-E slot...so back to the store to swap. Unfortunately they didn't have the PCI-E version, nor did they have the X850XL in PCI-E. So I took the cheaper ATI X700 pro 256. The only downside is...it has 8 pipelines instead of 12 or 16. I have a 12nm LCD screen. Will the difference in pipelines be noticable...or am I being picky.

If anyone has this card are you happy? What are your FPS's?

Um yeah, pretty noticably, like half the fps on higher resolutions and higher settings. Maybe you shoulda gone for a X800 vanilla 256mb, it has 12 pipelines and it's going for about 200 on newegg.com, or go for a 6800GT, after rebate on newegg.com, it's only 250 bucks, or get a X800XL on newegg.com for 280 bucks.

Time to go back to the store, and goto NewEgg.com instead!

Yes pipelines are huge. 24 is the msot right now (7800GTX) but I'm sure it won't be long before we start to see the pipeline race. 32,64,128, its on.

I'm sorry that Newegg.com is not an option for you, but I'm sure there are many Internet based retailers/wholesalers that will ship to Canada and you can get a very good price. Although it seems as though you've already purchased the X700 so just plug it in and play with the settings. I'm sure you'll be able to play very well.

I would definitely return it and ask if you can have a reserve spot for a PCIe version of your original X800GT.

Hay my x700 did a fine job at playing BF2 all on high apart from 2 stuff texture and lighting medium with 2XAA, Dont underestimate the power of the X700.

Its was the pro edition with 128gddr ram!!!

Your just being picky stick with the x700 and then buy your self a mother of all cards later on. Thats what i did!!!

                    Thanks,

I will give it a try and will hope for the best. You're right I'm being picky...I have a tendency to say ...what's another couple of hundred bucks...instead of saying...hey I just saved some cash and have a middle of the road card.

The card is the pro eddition but has 256 not 128...hopefully that'll be a big difference....I'll keep you posted.
