Dell Ram and Newegg Ram

Ok were about to upgrade my families Dell Dimension 9100 (Yeah, I know its a Dell) So we are going to get another GB of ram. We have 2x512MB now and I thought it would be better to get another 2x512MB to stay in duel channel. Well my stupid father calls tecgh supprt and they said you can ONLY get this

This it will work, because they are the same types of ram. I'm no expert, so wait for somebody like KingOfKhaos to give you the OK. I believe it will work though.

I wouldn't reccomend upgrading to either of those.

If I were you I'd get 2 x 1gb sticks and remove the Dell ram, that way you ensure no problems.

That is DDR400 PC3200, just remove your current RAM from your Dell, and put this ram into the two slots that your 2x512 sticks were in.

Then you should be good to go.

i know it sounds dumb, but if you go with 4 sticks of 512, make sure you have 4 slots to put it in, many dells only have 2 memory slots, but im not familiar with your model...

dual channel isnt gonna give you THAT much of a performance boost, bout 5-10%. if i were u id rather get a 1gb, its cheaper, and u can possibly get another 1gb to get 3gb in the future (tho ud probalby get a whole new system by the time u need 3gb). main advantage is that its cheaper to get a 1gb stick, but if u wanna stay 2x512 then yea, u dont need dell special ram

I Love the fact that Newegg gives price for pair, and dell gives you price for 1 but says at bottom you must order 2, lol.

If i was you ill get new 2x 1GB sticks and sell the old ram. Should sell quite well compared to the offical dell website lol.
