Is this hard drive going to slow down my computer significantly?

I am getting a new rig (shown in my sig) and I am planning on using a hard drive from my previous set up:

Maxtor 80GB Ultra ATA/133, 7200rpm, 8.5ms average access time, 2MB cache buffer, data transfer rates up to 133MB per second.

Nah. You should be just fine, although the price of harddrives is pretty low nowadays. You could pick up an 80 gig SATA150 for around $85. To answer your question though, you'd most likely only see differences in load times rather than game play.

no defintely not, it won't slow it down unless you've used too much of the hard drive. BUt if you're wondering what is slowing you down, the memory might, you might wana upgrade to 2 GB.

85 bucks for a 80 gig hard drive, that's not too good, on newegg.com you can find a 250gb SATA 150 for 125 bucks. That's what i got, plus, it has faster access times than other SATA 150 hard drives.

I know, I use Newegg.com almost solely for all my hardware. I was just trying to keep it under and extra $100. You're definintely correct in that there's very little price difference as you go up in capacities. It's almost foolish to get anything under 250Gb. I just picked one up myself.

I haven't put the rig together yet, just wondering in advance. Thanks for the response! I have been running the BF2 demo on absolute basement settings with my old rig, so I am looking forward to my new set up

You want to talk about basement. My cousin just went from an FIC AD11 w/1700+ and a 9200 AGP 512M PC2100 to an Asus A8V Deluxe w/Athlon 64 3000+, 1Gb pc3200 and a 9800Pro. Now I just have to get him up to the X800 or 850's and another gig. He was acutally able to play with his original rig!! I have no idea how it worked. The first time he was playing he was in an APC with me and was flipping out because he could see grass and lily pads in the water...rofl

Keep all three, put your games etc on the SATA, os etc on the 200gig and page file, temp internet files and all the crap on your 60 gig.

Maxtor has a 300Gb, 16mb cache SATA drive for around $130. Don't waste $85 on yesterdays drive technology. If you already have one, fine, just don't spend a bundle on an older drive. Chip in the extra $40 and get a huge SATA.

Or for the same amount, a 74Gb 10k Raptor would stomp the competition.
