can you believe how expensive their desktops are:

scroll to the right, that system costs $4,684 and it only has a 74gig hd... with SLI 6800's.. and only 1 gig ram. I'm pretty sure it doesn't come with a monitor or mouse and keyboard either. I built my own computer for about $1000 and it's almost as good as that, better harddrive aswell.

Are they actually ok or are they just way overpriced?

i have a lappy from them and it sux, its broke most of the time and it was about 3K for it.

Agreed....you can usually build a smokin puter for about half of what Alienware, Dell or anybody else would sell it for. You pay out the wazoo for tech support, when everyone knows or should know that you can get free tech support from forums like this.

I spent about 2 grand on mine that i built, Dell doesn't even offer the vid card I have or AMD chips? Why the heck would they try to promote a product as the ultimate gaming rig when they don't offer the best chips or cards for gaming?

That system is a lot better than yours.
The 74gb harddrive is a 10,000 RPM drive. Your harddrive is not better.
The FX55 is a lot better than your 3200+.
How can you even say that your 6800gt is almost as good as 2x 6800gts?
The CPU and videocards are watercooled.

Alienware makes good systems. They use namebrand parts and have good customer service.
They do overcharge though.

Great option for someone that doesn't have the time and/or confidence to build thier own.

you can make the exact PC with a normal case for half that price. Alienware is useless just looks cool thats all.

places like alienware are a total ripoff. just stay away from them. building your own pc is usually the best way to go at saving money.
however, if you want a pc for just regular word processing, web browsing, etc, i doubt you can beat prices from Dell. Complete system with monitor and printer for like $500?you'd be hard pressed to beat that.
