How long does it take to build a computer

I am wondering how long it will take to build my computer, some people tell me around 6 hours.

Depends, My acrylic case took 4 hrs alone, but it's a standard metal case and I had all the parts I could probably do one in about 4 hours and have al drivers installed and the OS installed and patched to SP2.

Depends how experienced you are. The longest part of the setup for me is the OS installation by far. Usually less than an hour to put everything into the case and get it powered up, then the rest of the time depends on the software you need to set up.

3hours to I dont know how long, there might be a problem and you will take forever but the least time I have taken is 3 hours the most was 6 hours.

As long as it takes to take your time and do it properly....that means hardware, software, drivers etc.......

i know a fair bit amount of computers but i havent built before, is it preetty straight forward?

DONT FORGET TO ground the motherboard with seaters, risers, whatever they are called.
Im still waiting for the parts to be returned after an RMA
sparks flew, thats all u need to know

small round pieces of paper (or something liek that) that you place between your mother board and teh screw you use to attach it to the inside of your case. they prevent electricity from going through the case and onto the board, and the other way around.

of course there are ussually problems, so it can take anywhere from 4 hours to 10+ hours. When I made my first computer (stats in sig) a few weeks ago, I had the following dillemas:

1. didn't know what direction to put the extra fan
2. had problems sticking in the CPU
3. first time booting up, it sounded like a 747 jet taking off. I thought I had messed up but then it suddenly stopped doing it after a few reboots
4. When I started windows and ran the program, I found the CPU fan wasn't spinning (program was shouting danger! danger! danger!) Started working after a while.

took me like 10 hours.. but Im only 15 and this was my first time. Atleast it hasn't stopped working yet

it took me 2 hours but setting it up like putting windows on and software took forever (well felt like it)

I dont think they are for that, with or with out them there is going to be an grounded connection (unless you put them either side of the motherboard) then there is still a risk of the screw thread grounding of the sides of the screw hole.

Dont worry too much about those, I think they are just there to cushion the mobo when the screw is overtightened. The mobo needs to be grounded to the case anyway.

My harware build time is less than an hour. OS, SP2, virus, firewall and drivers in about hour/hour and a half. So between 2 and 2 1/2 hours for full build from scratch.

A good tip is to spend some time tidying all the cables away as best as possible for best airflow. I find this takes longer than actually assambling it.

Also....make sure to use a grounding wrist band so you don't fry any components with static electricity.

can take half a day or a whole weekend, depends if you blow your motherboard by accident {acts sheepish}
