The manufacturer recommends at least a 450 watt power supply. Is a 500 watt going to be sufficient? Will a 500 watt power supply limit overclocking potential? I am not going to SLi.

Re: 7800 GTX Power Supply
It should be sufficient. Wouldnt hurt going higher though.
Also make sure its a good brand. Some brands 500 watt psu's are like other companies 400 watt Psu's.

You can any power supply that runs at least 26 amps on the +12V rail, look at the specifications before purchasing one.

Re: 7800 GTX Power Supply
Rosewill aren't exactly stellar.. and that is a single rail, but it should be ok.
IMHO PSU's is an area where you definitely should not cut corners on.

What problems would one expect if a power supply isn't sufficient?Originally posted by DrunkenPirateRosewill aren't exactly stellar.. and that is a single rail, but it should be ok.

Random resets are a popular one, failure to POST.. you usually know something is wrong.

Re: 7800 GTX Power Supply
What keel said basically, usually rebooting is a classic one when the system is put under heavy loads such as 3D gaming. However I do know people that are running systems like yours with worse PSU's so I think you should be ok.

Re: 7800 GTX Power Supply
New Egg hasn't processed the order yet so I think I could cancel the PSU order and get something else. What would you recommend for a 7800 gtx (min of 450 watt)? So if the computer boots and is stable will it be ok or could there be problems down the road? Thanks!Originally posted by DrunkenPirateWhat keel said basically, usually rebooting is a classic one when the system is put under heavy loads such as 3D gaming. Can you tell me the difference between the Modstream and this one (besides the 20w)?
Because they both seem to have a 12V current rating of 26A. I truly don't know what I am talking about though.
Thanks
