6800LE? Maybe there's a better card out there for only a few bucks more? Aren't they coming out with the ATI X800 GT? How about the ATI X700?

      More memory would be good.

I had a 9200 pro and i got news for you. It won't work in bf2, its completely useless. I built an entirely new computer with a new video card because my old card wouldn't work and I didn't have a powerful enough psu and I couldn't upgrade it either. If you have a power supply of at least 350 watts you need a minimum of a radeon 9550 to play bf2 but I would reccomend a 9800 pro it runs bf2 great. Its not as good as the Nvidia cards but they wouldn't run on my system.

Lol I just read that you are going to upgrade ur graphics card o well. I don't know whether or not that card will run bf2 but if its better than a 9200 it probably will.

I would suggest a half-gig stick of ram.

I was in a pc shop - a small local one (where i got my, custom built), and i said i want to upgrade to 2 gig, and he said its pointless, you wont notice a difference between 1 gig and 2 gig, and i told him its for gamiing, playing bf2, and he said he plays that, and tried 2 gig and never noticed a difference between 2 gig and 1 gig. I want to believe that, but every person on the net who plays it, says 2 gig is a big diff compared to 1 gig!

Yet he is persuading me not to, but if i did buy 2 gig, that would be more money for him, but he is telling me not to, so im unsure!

              I hear 6800 is good
              I am an ATI man
bought the X800XL for my son
              it is GREAT
do not get anything less than the 800 series
              more RAM?
you will load faster - no effect on game play
and a good sound card (not embedded) makes a big difference as well (ie faster frames per second)

Re: How should i upgrade my system

Tell that pointless computer man who thinks 2 gig is useless.

I had Kingston Hyper-x PC3200 matched set of 1 gig total (2 x 512) on a ASUS P4-800E Mobo. That was running dual channel linear.

I inserted a additional Hyper-x 2x512 to create a total of two gig of ram.

I am first loaded into a map and verifying takes half the time it once did. Once the map is in the computer and gaming really is flawless.

I have RAID, 6800 vid card etc etc etc all backed by a 550 watt PSU and 400 CFM worth of cooling (Im deaf so noise is not issue)

That RAM is the single most noticable upgrade done on this machine. Thus:

1- Upgrade and add more RAM
                2- Consider a 256 Mb video card on 16 pipes (Not 12)
3- RAID solution with more drives working together
4- Disable HT (Hyperthreading) In your bios. I run a 3 Gig Pentium with a 1 meg cache with HT off.

if you must get something, get more ram. but i would get a better card than the 6800 first.

Re: How should i upgrade my system

Actually it does work if you tinker with the agp settings(only works with low graphics and looks like $***).

The reason im getting a 6800LE is because you can unlock more pixle pipelines and get more proformance for less $$. People have unlock up to 16 piplines on the LE making it almost as good at a GT (but alas the 128 memory). Anyways i got one for $120 so its a really good deal.

I will keep my eye out for sum more ram. Topgun, sound cards effect fps? (probally a newb question) i hav never heard of that. I have JBL creature speakers (highly recommend them for anyone in the market for sum speakers), they are only 2.1 what is a cheap sound card you would recommend?

                    Why would i disable HT??

Re: How should i upgrade my system

RAM is such an all around good choice for an upgrade. When I get into BF2 & then minimize, I then open up my resource panel. (ctrl-alt-del) it shows that almost 900 mb of resource is used up. So I would recommend at LEAST 1.5 gig RAM. I was running the Geforce fx 5200 128 mg vid card. I was having to run everything on low settings except med texture. My fps sucked when I would man the guns on the vehicles or transports while they were moving. Uuuughhhh!! I upgraded to the ATI X850Xt & wooohooooo !!!! High settings with great fps. There is no words to describe the graphics & gameplay with that card. I only have 1 gig RAM but am getting at least another 512 stick of 400 RAM. Rock On!

Video Card for sure. Which one is up to you. I'm guessing you have AGP, so any AGP card.

Re: How should i upgrade my system

Disabling HT forces the CPU to concentrate on the game instead of trying to run something else on half the chip.

If that is a noob answer then someone post the correct reason. That is how I see it anyway.
