    Am i not hearing something?

My PC Has onboard sound. I was thinking of picking up a sound card, nothing expensive. My question, is it really worth it? My Altec Lansing subwoofer setup sounds good to me.

I was looking to get something like this. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...15999&pfp=cat3

If you wanted to upgrade cheaply...go for a Soundblaster Audigy2 Value Edition. It's only 10 or 20 bucks more and probably worth it...

If you already have interated sound with your mobo will hooking up a new sound card arise any conflicts?

It shouldn't if you disable onboard sound in BIOS. Some people run onboard sound for TeamSpeak or Ventrillo and a soundcard for the game. Not sure if BF2 can do this, however.

Yes, this will make a difference to whether it's worth it or not.

I have seen problems getting VIOP working with some cheaper onboard sound chips, ALC850 AC97 for example.

I was using one of those SB Live 24 Bit cards in my rig, except it couldn't get enough mic boost for my headset mic, so I went back to my old SB Live Value. Other than that, they do work with BF2 and have good playback and recording qualities (96KHz, 24bit) for the money.

It's probably better paying a bit more to go for a basic Audigy card or something though.
