Sell your 9700 PRO get about ($70-$100) for it. Use that to help you get an X800 PRO or higher.

9800 PRO or 6600 GT isnt much of an upgrade from a 9700 PRO. Your better off saving your money for a year then buying.

6600GT is better, you can't even play BF2 at 1600x1200 on 9800XT, the FX5950 barely pulled out 1fps, the 6600GT got like 15 fps going. the 6600GT kills all last generation cards already. But i reccomend selling your card, like the other guy said, and getting at least a X800 256mb, the best would be a X800XL, you can get one for 250 bucks on newegg.com, and it has 16 pipes

Couple of determining factors though.

The 9700 PRO is on the way out, getting artifacts appearing and the odd and more common video crash. Wouldnt feel right selling it, and anyways told my dad he can have it, too replace his really old Geforce 2.

Other factor being the mrs, had to sneak the cash to go for the likes of the 9800 or 6600. Though now I have an interest in the X700.

Any further input on the X700, too see if its worth the extra few bucks.

i just baught it, and runs way better than 9800 , i put half of my settings on high with 2xaa and i get 90-100 FPS no less. i think its great doesnt overheat as much as the 9800. and it cost less well at least for me it did

The X700 pro seems to be beaten by the 9800 pro in many aspects.

The article was brought out in october 2004. Anybody know any different.

Current thinking is 9800 pro wins ahead of X700, 6600 gt beats 9800 pro.

6600 GT is better. But, if you can sell that 9700, try a 6800NU, 6800GT, X800 pro or XL instead.

I think that u should go for a Nvidia card this time. Why? Simple, better technology as it can hanndle sharders 3.0 and the current ATI cards cannot. I made the move from ati to nvidia for that reason and IMHO all ATIs X700, X800 and so are nothing more than a 9700/9800 with higher clocks, so if u dont wanna miss some effects like HDR and others u better go for a Nvidia one.

Far Cry and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

And soon HL2 with the addition of the "Lost Coast" level. I have a 6600gt right now that I got for free, but I just bought an X800XL that should be here Tuesday. I dont think SM 3.0 is worth it, played with it in Far Cry and wasnt too impressed.

Well, i'm not a fanatic of Nvidia, you know? and as i said i used to have an Ati 9700 (very very very pleased with it). I just recommended a Nvidia coz IMO it has the best cards right know (X850 are so powerful but alter all they have nothing over the 9800 pro except the clocks). So don't call me lamer pls.
