ok recently i pumped up the settings in CSS since i got my new video Card (AIW 9800 pro) and it started overheating i would touch it and it would be burning hot. now i found a extra fan lying around i was trying to figure out where to put it. and i decide on top of my Video card in the hopes it would cool more. can somone tell me if this is safe or effective. or where is the best place to put it...

In my opinion an aftermarket cooler would be alot more beneficial. I don't really think a fan laying on the pcb is going to do too much. Replace those ribbon cables with round ones and tie them up nicely and that'll greatly improve airflow.

Yup. I always have used Artic Cooling GPU coolers. Seeing as the GPU is the hottest component in the case I like how they blow the hot air right out a PCI slot opening. I also use all round cables and 2 88mm fans in front and 2 in bakc, 1 on the side and a 120 on top.

blame urself when the plastic on the fan fuses with the video card, due to the extreme heat...just messing with ya...

My friend had a 9800 Pro and after a few weeks it started overheating aswell. Make sure your fan is still working on the card as his had stopped

What the hell! clean your cables up first. I don't think that fan is going to do muc, I put my fan is under the card. Oh, the x700... i have no idea if it's good or not.

Drill a hole in your case side centered on the gpu heatsink. Mount that fan in the hole, blowing inwards.

Shouldn't be hard to find a drill bit, plumbers/carpenters/electricians are a prime source if you know any.

Any dont forget to clean your cpu heatsink, that thing's dusty as hell.

As previously stated, clean up those cables. They block airflow. Fold them up neatly and tuck them away. PSU or fan leads usualy look best if they are tightly twisted or idealy they should be jacketed if you feel like heading down to the local auto store or electronics shop.

well its too late now baught a new video card, stil doesnt mean im not buying a PCI slot fan
