6800le ?

Hi!

I'm gonna get a new gfx card among with cpu, mobo and ram and i found an asus card called ASUS Extreme N6800LE/HTD. Is LE Light edition and the card sux or is this a better card then the Sapphire Radeon X800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express, Tv-Out, DVI-I, Lite-Retail i was thinking about getting otherwise?

BTW, the other stuff i am planning to get is: CPU: AMD FX in the range of 3000-3500, MOBO: asus a8n-e: RAM: 1GB (2*512MB) PC3200 DDR

Towie LE stands for LAME EDITION!

Its a cut down version of the 6800!.

Get a 6600gt or a 6800gt

a normal 6800 can be easily softmodded to a 6800gt. and a 6800gt can be easily turned into a 6800 ultra :)

If your on a budget get a 6800 and mod it to 6800GT spec using Rivatuner. But if you can afford a 6800GT, go for it as you will never get a 6800 to 6800GT clock speeds so will always be slower.

I'd stay far away from a 6800LE as they are just weaksauce 6800's. Here's the order from worst for best i'd get.

Tnx for the help but the 6800 or 6800GT is to expensive. If i dont go for the 6800LE I will have to go for the 6600GT, 128MB (havent found a 256MB?) but from the benchmarks at Toms Hardware it seems the x800 is slightly faster in almost every test so shouldnt that be a better buy in such cases? I dont know what the GT stands for but its seems to be better then standard when getting nvidia

edit: I actually found a 6800GT (Club3D GeForce 6800GT 256MB DDR3/PCI-E/DVI/TV-OUT) I could get but that would mean dropping the cpu from a amd FX 3500+ 2,2Ghz to a 3000+ 1,8Ghz and only getting 512MB ram extra, making it a total of 1GB instead of getting 1GB extra. Would this be a better choice?

my specs right now is: Abit NF7-S | XP2500-m @ 2100mhz | 512mb DDR PC 433| Radeon9800XT 256MB| 21" DELL P1130| [100 mbit].

the mobo got damaged when the psu exploded so that is a must change, change that, and when i change mobo i figured i'd go with amd 64 S939, and while I'm at it also to change from agp to pci-e, 512mb RAM.. its just to little :)

Yeah, the X800 does have 12 pipelines, and it's only 154 bucks, it's much better than the 6800 LE, Here's the order of the ratings on nVidias cards:
LE<vanilla<GT<GTX<Ultra, but don't think that a 6800 Ultra is better than 7800GTX, i mean in the same chipset, and that is the same for ATi, here's the ATi chart: SE<GT<vanilla<Pro<XL<XT<XT PE, the se means shitty edition, the le means lame edition, the 6600GT outperforms a 6800LE.

NO IT CAN'T!!!! 6800GT uses DDR3 6800 uses DDR, a modded 6800 will NEVER equal a 6800GT.

Ok guys, only old 6800s can be softmodded, start lookin on ebay for one that came out like 2 years ago. Anyways, yu can never match the GT. You have to bump the memory clock speed by 300mhz, that's almost impossible, but you can bump a 6800GT to ultra, that's a lot easier.

The Powecolor X800GT uses the same core as an X850 XT PE, so it can seriously overclocked

SOrry to correct you, but it is the same core as the X800XL, the R430. Here's the cores that i know of, R423: X800Pro, X800XT, X800XTPE. R430:
X800GT, X800XL. R480: X850Pro, X850XT, X850XTPE.
Plus, if you could oc it to speeds of X850XTPE (which is like impossible) you still are 8 pipes behind, and pipelines mean a LOT. So it would have about half the performance.

True but the PowerColor X800GT is based on the R480 (X850 Core) and will be priced at £85 - £115 for the 128mb and 256mb versions. http://www.hexus.net

An unlocked/overclocked 6800 is the best cost/performing gfx card on the market IMO. I got mine running at 365mhz core and 835mhz ram which isnt too bad compared to the 6800GT's 350 and 1000. I know the GT can be overclocked to Ultra levels but it costs far more than a 6800.

The 6800LE has the chance of being able to be unlock to a 6800NU. I know not all of them can, but enough where i'd take a chance on it. If that works then it indeed is better than a 6600GT.

Correct, and for less than $170. As far as overclocking goes:

The PowerColor Radeon X800 GT managed a stable frequency of 570MHz for its core and 1120MHz DDR for the memory.

Yes, the whole R430 core is based on the R480 core (the X850's core), so it is closer related to a X800XL. And i still doubt that you could get out those extra 8 pipelines. Plus, if you do do all this stuff, you need some serious cooling solution.
