Building a new PC HD question.

I just reinstalled XP on my master HD ( which is 20 gb )
And i put my slave drive ( which is 40 gb )
now i was thinking of keeping my Master for programs and such.
And my slave for only games.
Would this slow down my game performance? Since slave is further away than the master?

Or would it speed up Performance because all there is on my Slave is games?
any opinions?

Nope. You'll be good. I do something similar. My OS is on an ATA133 IDE drive and my games are on a SATA drive.
You may even see a boost in performance simply because the games are on a cleaner drive. Although I'm not posititve.

i Used my 20 samsung sata drive for the master and
the 40 gb maxtor ide for the games..

Should i switch??

Chance are the SATA drive will run faster than the IDE drive but I wouldn't worry too much. It's basically just load times.

I dont think you will notice much difference if you switch unless your PATA drive is 5 years old and your SATA drive is a 10K RPM WD Raptor. Most drives today still don't push the limits of their theroetical data transfer rates on most home pc's. PATA can do 133MB/s and SATA can do 150MB/s, or 300MB/s depending on your technology. I think reads are still in the 50MB/s range for High Performence 7200RPM drives and bursts are near 70MB/. Just keep your drives defraged and your system board drivers up to date to make sure your taking advantage of your boards particular PATA and SATA controllers.

It's not worth it changing, i have a 20 gigger setup as my master and an 80 slave driver, all my games and crap are on the 80, it works just dandy, besides it's a hassle to switch all that crap.

Its not hard but if you havent done it before it may be a little stressing.
You would need a guide. Go to your local computer store and just ask them to show you quickly. They won't mind!

if you ask me HD you dont need that much at all. unless u develop stuff or make something and need storage space but if u only plan on playing games 60 gigs is enough i would go for 80. geiting 160 or above that is usless, ur never gona use that mutch

I personally have my HDD partitions like this. My master is an 80gb hdd that is partitioned to 10 gigs to store windows, and other vital programs like drivers (my HDD was about to keel over I thought, I was sick of reformatting and reinstalling WoW, BFV, and UT2k4 every week, so I now just reformat the 10 gig partition), and the 70 gigs for all my video games. I leave my 120gig slave drive just to store files. I don't notice any hit to speed, or performance.
